Which make up brand to stick with?

I'm 40 later his year and have never really worn makr up regularly (just for special occasions). Starting to think i need a daily routine to cover up dark circles, red cheeks etc- the more natural and lighter the better. As I'm pretty clueless, I thought I'd get one of those free demo sessions where they show you what to do, and then get some of their staples afterwards. But which brand to go for foe this? Something that isn't going to break the bank if it becomes a regular purchase.

I splurge on foundation but everything else is cheaper Maybelline mostly. If you just want super light make up I'd go to a big Boots and ask behind the counter they can match your foundation and lipstick.
