After the delivery of my youngest my skin looked like I’m a corpse. Tragic isn’t it. Anyway I went back on retin an and adjusted quickly and now I’m Vaseline slugging on top of it, absolutely game changed. My skin looks so bouncy! It’s not for everyone but it’s worked for me!

I’ve often slathered my face in Vaseline overnight. Skin is v plump in the morning. This is nothing new.

Wow this thread has brought out some arsey people! So odd how certain subjects can really get some knickers in a twist, surprised that slugging is one. How bizarre.

My nana and stepgrandmother both used Ponds Cold Cream and had great skin.

So here’s my question and I’m not trying to be controversial, as I’ve just ordered skin + me so will be trying tret myself for the first time.

If tret makes your skin peel (and someone said above their skin has been peeling for 8 years with tret) - is it really worth it? What’s the payoff?

im thinking that peeling skin would look worse than lovely smooth skin with a few wrinkles… am I wrong?

It doesn;t usually peel for that long for most people. Doesn't suit everyone, but it's a miracle drug for me. It has completely simplified my life, because all I use is Tret and Olay/Nivea/Simple plus sunscreen. Don't need anything else, don't want anything else. It's super simple.

My tret is from overseas so maybe stronger than Skin and Me.

This sounds excellent.

Do you apply tret then a layer of vasaline immediately on top, or apply tret wait then add vasaline? Curious. I'd love bouncy skin too!

First time I have heard the term slugging but Dr Natalia Spierings strongly advocates using vaseline as a moisturiser and saving your money. I love her approach to skincare - no nonsense and focuses only on things with a good evidence base.

I posted on here several times because I was struggling with cystic acne and having read her book, stopped everything except for tret in evening (Skin&Me) and benzyl peroxide in the morning. I am still using up my old moisturiser so not yet switched to vaseline but will do so once I have nothing else left. I use sandwich technique for tret - moisturise, tret, moisturise again. My skin has calmed down but I have a lot of scarring left which will take time to fade

Sususudio · 29/01/2024 10:16

Tret is really the only thing, along with sunscreen, proven to work for anti-aging ( though I began using it for peri-menopausal acne) if you google some evidence. Everything else is mostly just moonshine in a bottle. It's not a cult. It's science.

Vaseline would't suit my skin though as it tends to be oilier and prone to acne. But you can just use any moisturiser. Doesn't matter.

SadCelticBunny · 29/01/2024 10:41

My grandmother also used Ponds Cold Cream., I can still smell it and her Bourjois blusher in the little cardboard pot!

My daughter, when tiny, said to her, Nanna, your face is so crumply and soft and lovely!"

I was hoping for good skin as I aged and was doing well until Covid gave me the gift of rosacea.
😔

Does anyone know would this tret & slugging work for rosacea?

Sususudio · 29/01/2024 10:42

I am no dermatologist but I don't think Tret would be good for rosacea as it's a bit harsh. Above article I linked says not.

sunshinesupermum · 29/01/2024 11:37

What is Trey? And why use slug when apply will do? #askingforafriend

alltoomuchrightnow · 29/01/2024 12:35

I'd like to know too re rosacea, or what can we use for ageing, if sensitive and red..I have thin skin too

RJnomore1 · 29/01/2024 12:50

Wait. Does Vaseline not encourage facial hair growth?
