Skinny jeans & boots thing - advice for fashion novice please

I love the skinny jeans & knee length boots look and would love to give it a try. I've got a pair of great straight leg jeans, but are these too baggy for this look? I'm just not sure how to do it properly and don't have the confidence to pull something off if I'm not sure how it looks. There don't seem to be many boots left in shops at the mo - can anyone recommend some good ones (I don't want slouchy ones).

mf I imagine you are amazingly hot! do you need to be incredibly skinny to pull this off? I'm thinking... hell yes.

well i'm a 10 too, but I do currently have a J-lo style arse so that may offset overbalanced the look.

Ack, you know I'm still gonna imagine you gorgeous, it fits your posts.

i wondered what sort of mad people spent that kind of money on jeans...now i know at least one motherfunk

do you mix with the kind of people that realise how much they cost?

it must be annoying to buy these labels mand nobody recognize them

i get mine from new look etc

Twinkie1 · 20/03/2008 08:04

If you have a big arse just wear a longer top.

Tutter · 20/03/2008 08:14

"it must be annoying to buy these labels mand nobody recognize them"

zippi, you're missing the point

in general, expensive jeans fit better, last longer and look better

Piffle · 20/03/2008 08:17

I have 2 pairs of 7's which I adore and wear all the time. But the boots jeans look would be a less regular event hence outlet being less. Agree re expensive jeans being better although gap are very good. Do they do a skinny?

zippitippitoes · 20/03/2008 08:34

i just could not spend that sort of money on something

even when i had mioney i couldnt do it

nit a criticism just dont see the value or have the desire

but since i can now buy stuff in new look etc because it fits i am quite happy to do so

i have grown out of expecting clothes to last for ages

i would rather buy cds lol

peacelily · 20/03/2008 09:12

Gap do do skinnies, very good quality and long lasting.

I've got 2 pairs of sass and bide in grey and black plus miss sixty blue skinnies. I've had them all for 3 years and they're showing no signs of wear. Expensive jeans are better quality and worth spending a bit extra on IMO. Bought some Zara ones last year they went all baggy round the arse and didn't fit properly accross the front. Buy a good pair of jeans once a year as an investment purchase.

IMO ( and remember it's only my opinion) the jeans look tucked into smart boots is a bit over but bikers/chunky boots/ugg or ugg type boots looks great. Try ones from Rocket Dogg, Hush Puppy or Fly.

Tutter · 20/03/2008 09:12

each to their own zippi

abigaillockhart · 20/03/2008 09:21

Have also only recently dipped my toe into this look. Would agree with Peacelily that flat boots look better - heels can look like you're trying too hard (IMHO).

I have not bad legs until the upper thigh where they become quite sizable so I wear tunic tops, belted chunky cardigans or dresses over the top.

Would also second designer jeans - James is the fit for me after years of searching. (although I did buy GAP skinnies to experiment with the look)

My mantra is 'buy cheap, buy twice'. Always buy one item of the best that you can afford.
As a student I stopped buying impulse purchases in Primark/ New Look but tried to put away £5 then would treat myself in French Connection when I had £50. I still wear a pair of trousers from then, 10 years later!! Cost per wear!

nailpolish · 20/03/2008 09:25

ive stopped buying from new look - its definitely for teenagers and the under 25's, and i think people recognise that. i go to new look, but only for my 5 yr old daughter now. i MAY consider shoes, but as i can spot a pair of new look shoes a mile off, i tend to think other people can too so i probably wont

nailpolish · 20/03/2008 09:28

also, i think skinny jeans and knee high boots is definitely past it

leave it to cher and her cronies (esp the black boots)

anyway, miss selfridge and top shop jeans are far nicer and better made and last longer

zippitippitoes · 20/03/2008 10:30

lol i never used to buy clothes at all so now i am addicted to spending cos before i looked so fucking awful that i didnt want to leave the house never mind try clothes on

it dpends what you buy doesnt it

i just bought some brown clumpoy boots in river island reduced to 30 quid to wear with as dress from there they look nice with jeans tucked in

i dont care if the stuff is for under twenty fives....my dd is delighted i bought it cos she tried it on herself apparently

thoi i think as it is a 12 it will probably be a size to big for her

Piffle · 20/03/2008 10:33

hate miss selfridge full of mentalist teen girl hoards who smirk at you in that horrid way...
I like the boots in jeans look seen it on some people and if looks classy. Have great flat duo mock biker boots. Got very skinny legs and give scant regard to whether the look is in or not

lou33 · 20/03/2008 10:34

i got a good grey pair of skinny jeans from tesco that cost a tenner

tuck into my boots great
