Hi,

Just this really.

I have naturally wavy/curly hair, which I blow dry smooth (ish) twice a week. I have a balayage, but haven't had it refreshed for probably a year, as my hair grows slowly. I've just had toners and root touch ups for greys.

Anyway, it's been getting extra dry over the last month or so, but this morning I've woken up and one side in particular iis like burnt cotton wool 😳🥺

I was looking at finding a new hairdresser to consider a new colour and style, but I need something ASAP to at least calm this down, even if it's just temporarily.

Currently using Redken conditioner (heavy cream?) and it did used to make me hair feel and look smooth, but clearly not anymore.

Any tips? 🙏

How old are you?

Just wondering because I'm perimenopause and my hair is a similar type to yours, but it has also reverted to the unmanageable frizz I had during puberty. I hate it because it's fine too, so has no weight to hold the frizz down a bit.

Watching this thread with interest.

Floopani · 23/01/2024 08:36

That should say I'm perimenopausal, not I am perimenopause. Although it does feel like it has taken over 😂

CinemaMinstrels · 23/01/2024 08:59

Thanks @TheOGCCL

@Floopani I'm 39, so possibly. I'm wondering if it looks extra bad because maybe I was sweating last night (?) Doesn't salt dry your hair out? 🤔

Anyway, a bit serum or oil ain't going to help today 😬

Have you have covid recently op? I had a lot of hair fall out after having covid and my hair completely changed texture to what you described

theduchessofspork · 23/01/2024 09:08

I think you’ll need to wash with conditioner today and restyle.

Has the central heating been on excessively? Could be peri-m otherwise.

I have dry fine curly hair that quite frequently puffs out. Philip Kingsley’s elasticiser is a really good weekly treatment. If that doesn’t do it then hair Botox every six weeks (it’s just a deeper conditioning treatment) really does help, but it’s expensive.

katmarie · 23/01/2024 10:17

Just another perspective. Have you changed your pillow, pillowcase, or laundry detergent recently? That could be causing an issue.

Rattai · 23/01/2024 10:19

Do you oil your hair at night? I as a could of drops of oil into my hands and rub it through my hair ... it makes a huge difference

ThePoshUns · 23/01/2024 10:31

Try a silk pillowcase? Cotton draws the moisture from your hair.

CinemaMinstrels · 23/01/2024 10:53

@baklavagoddess yes, 2 weeks a go actually. Pretty mild case. Only tested because family member I'd been around a lot had tested positive and was reallt struggling. I have had a lot of hair loss over the past decade anyway, due to iron deficiency 😒 I think I did have more loss after my first 'proper' covid infection.

@theduchessofspork yes, it has actually. Not at night though, which is when this seems to have really kicked in. I actually tried the PK treatment a couple of years a go, but didn't feel like it did anything. Perhaps I didn't apply it correctly though. Hair botox? Is that better than Olaplex and the like?

@katmarie I had put on fresh sheets, but no new detergent or anything and obviously a rare occurrence 😂

@Rattai I usually run a few drops of Moroccan oil in the morning, but not at night.

@ThePoshUns I did try a satin one, but found it strangely uncomfortable. Think I might give it another go tonight though.

Obviously not a rare occurrence 😬😂

Just giving this a hopeful bump 😊

Following for solutions, I think my medication has given my hair this texture

LuckyCharmz · 23/01/2024 14:33

Protein overload from the conditioner? How long have you been using it? You could try a clarifying shampoo and a more moisturising condioner for a change (or the other way round, if the conditioner was moisture heavy, try one with protein).

IsadoraQuagmire · 23/01/2024 14:50

This is what often happens with a thyroid problem (but all over, not just on one side)

Vicliz24 · 23/01/2024 15:27

I always use a hair oil at night in winter because of the cold and central heating . I'm not sure it would be the solution but definitely worth a try .
