Some of the shirts here look nicer than the Zara ones

Love the one on the right.

LadeOde · 23/01/2024 12:55

I'd wear the one on the left (black and white), my grandma would wear the one on the right (fumpy, prettyin pink floral disaster).

HeartStarRose · 23/01/2024 12:59

The pink one is better, but I'd want to add a lot of black to the overall outfit for contrast (I like multicolour spring florals with black).

No harm in having both plain and patterned in your wardrobe.

This costs a fair bit more but is rather cute:

This has a lovely shape:

(I do not love the fabric content of either.)

This is much less timid than the Zara blouses. (Also much more expensive.) Does at least contain some natural fibre.

I like all of those - particularly the Sister Jane one.

They're all so much more interesting than a "crisp white shirt" or a "nice silk shirt"

Papyrophile · 23/01/2024 13:04

I might wear the monochrome shirt (never the pink one) but only if the pattern matching was better.

starfishmummy · 23/01/2024 13:27

I prefer the more colourful one, I see it as a a fine for now shirt, not an investment piece that you'll be wearing for years. For classy you can't beat a decent white shirt perfectly laundered.

Limited imagination perhaps?

The reverse, I fear.Grin

Neither are classy. To be frank, few prints are. If you want to wear a floral print, stick to something classic like a Liberty print.

If you say so. "Grayson Perry" gets trotted out with (tedious) regularity.

TheOriginalFrench · 23/01/2024 14:01

It’s an interesting point. If men in drag take over all the prettiest, flounciest, most ‘feminine’ clothes - what are we left with?

I recall going off Vivienne Westwood (women’s clothes) because a man whose name I’ve forgotten wore a lot of her designs on a season of Big Brother years ago. I just didn’t feel the same about about it any more …

But I don’t always want to wear grey trousers and a black polo neck jumper …

ErrolTheDragon · 23/01/2024 14:05

If men in drag take over all the prettiest, flounciest, most ‘feminine’ clothes - what are we left with?

Clothes which aren't a parody of women's? (The linked blouse wasn't really pretty or 'feminine' imo. Flouncy, to be sure. Urgh)

I would haunt a stately home in that.

TheOriginalFrench · 23/01/2024 14:11

But I like it …

I don’t find it a parody. It’s a bit tongue in cheek and overblown - but as someone who grew up with a mother who made her daughters the most elaborately smocked dresses I’m always delighted to see that sort of craft is still available. I’d buy the whole collection if I could.

theDudesmummy · 23/01/2024 14:14

I wear a lot of floral tops but I wouldn't wear either of those. The black and white one is ugly and the pink one is insipid. Sorry.

WafflesOrIceCream · 23/01/2024 14:56

Thank you all.x

I don't think it is a parody.

There's been some horrible responses here OP. I like both of them. I think they would both look nice with (something like) the denim skirt in this article.

The second one is lovely!
You can dress it up with dress slacks or down with jeans.

I would wear it with ripped jeans, black belt and a black blazer. Low ponytail, big glasses, high heels in black or pink.

WafflesOrIceCream · 24/01/2024 08:55

@IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle
@Josette77 Thank you both for your suggestions on how to style the shirts.
