I need the eyeshadow primer to end all other eyeshadow primers

Any suggestions? I have used Urban Decay (over 10 years ago, so I can't remember what it was like)

Used the Mac eye primer painterly pot, I can't remember whether it was any good in all honesty but it was too orange for me.

I've tried using my concealer, and a thicker concealer from an eyebrow palette, I've tried a cheap Aldi dupe, but all of these just mean that I have nice eyeshadow in the morning but by the end of the day my eyelids are a bit greasy, grey and have that line in the crease. Not an attractive look 😑

I have some lovely, good quality eyeshadow palettes but my oily eyelids mean that by the end of the day my eyes look awful.

Get yourself back on the urban decay!

Notgivingup54 · 22/01/2024 19:34

I need this kind of help too, so going to follow along if that's okay.

Urban Decay

mynewusername2023 · 22/01/2024 19:46

Hourglass. I can apply shadow at 7am and it still looks good at 7pm. And my eyelids crease and will not hold shadow without a primer.

Of course 😁 so Hourglass and Urban Decay have been suggested, it's a shame they don't sell little sample sizes for one or two applications, I have wasted so much money on makeup that turned out to be crap.

I don't mind spending a bit more on something good but when it turns out to be rubbish and I can't return I get deep inner rage

I use P Louise cosmetic paint & it's great, lasts all day, easy to work with & you only need a dot to cover the whole eyelid

TotallyFloored · 22/01/2024 22:20

nars - best one I’ve tried (and I’ve tried lots).

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/01/2024 22:40

Mars. The UD one just creased on me so I had a double dose of creasing with that and my eyeshadow!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 22/01/2024 22:41

Nars! Stupid autocorrect 😂

monpetitlapin · 22/01/2024 22:42

Big department stores have samples of Urban Decay! You can't buy them but you can ask a rep for them. I know because I have one upstairs it's like a tiny set of 3 different UD primers that I haven't tried yet.

Garlicnaan · 23/01/2024 00:09

UD is the only one I've tried that's worked at all, but even that's not perfect. Interested to try the Nars one.

baubletits · 23/01/2024 07:50

Next time I'm in town I'll ask for a sample from Urban Decay, I know some makeup counters won't give samples of their products (looking at you Dior 😶)

I'm interested in the P Louise one, a colleague said it was really good when I asked for recommendations (and it's not too expensive if it doesn't work out)

Does anyone know if makeup counters accept returns if products just don't do what they say they do? I've never tried to take anything back before but I had a No7 foundation that the member of staff told me absolutely would not break down on my oily nose after I told her I needed something as a cheaper alternative to Double Wear as every other foundation just didn't work. Got colour matched, thought I'd give it a go and used it with my regular primer and powder. By the end of the day, I was an oily mess and it had sunk into all the pores on my nose. Waste of £14 and back to using my Double Wear.

i’ve got very oily eyelids and it’s a nightmare. I would rate Urban Decay as 6/10. Bare Minerals used to do a better one but stopped making it (as Bare Minerals tend to do with all their highest performing products, for some unfathomable reason).

Give the Elf one a try. It’s just as good as Urban Decay IMO and about £3.

NorthFaceofthelaundrypile · 23/01/2024 08:01

I had a Luvia eye shadow primer in a beauty box, and for the first time ever I can put eye shadow on in the morning, and it’s still there at bedtime.
Ive been rebuying in Vinted!

TheOGCCL · 23/01/2024 08:06

I agree Nars is 6/10, at best. I’ve never found one that actually keeps eyeshadow in place. The only saving grace is that lots of eyeshadow is not so fashionable these days.

I find the Rimmel Cloud eyeshadows stay on well and can be used as a primer too. Similar to the 5 in 1 one that Bare Minerals did about ten years ago.

PricklyBob · 23/01/2024 08:19

Same problem here. I swear by Elf. It's brilliant at holding eyeshadow in place all day.

App13 · 23/01/2024 08:43

Nars, I have the most sweatiest eye lids, nothing stuck until this.

Used it now since last 10 yrs, previously on urban decay but found that hard to get hold of

Chooba · 23/01/2024 08:48

Another vote here for Barry M lid lock. And affordable to try out too!

baubletits · 23/01/2024 17:37

Right, I've been to Superdrug and picked up the Barry M Lidlock primer, was going to also try the elf primer but they didn't have it.

Will report back with how successful it is.

Decided not to wear any primer today and my eyeshadow stayed on longer than it ever has done with primer (not sure if that's because it was a different eye shadow but I was pleasantly surprised considering I've been had it on since 6am and been to the gym!)

Try the Milani one it’s very similar to the US one

Lwrenagain · 25/01/2024 07:30

I love my Plouise one, I think it really helps boost the pigment in the shadow as well.

If I do friends make up before a night out it's the eye primer I find stays put the best on oily/sweaty skin.

Have you used translucent powder on the eyelids? I know my pal who is a mua professionally swears by that over concealer and thinks eye primer is a fad, but I'm not a professional so they can claw my Plouise out my cold dead hands 😂

YouHaveAnArse · 25/01/2024 08:51

Wet 'n'Wild in the white tube is surprisingly good.
