Can anyone recommend a curling tong?

I have recently bought the Babyliss YouCurl which allegedly makes 'curling as easy as straightening'. I couldn't get on with it though and am going to take it back. Has anyone got curling tongs that are straightforward and easy to use that they would recommend?

I have some basic ones that I don't use now as my hair is too short.

I think I used them twice if you weren't bothered about not being brand spanking new.

I have tried the GHD method and found this really tricky too! Perhaps I'm just crap at this curling lark! The Babyliss ones, the concept is you slide them into the hair at (or near) the root, and turn them 180 degree as you move them down. They look a bit like straighteners but with curved cooling plates on the side. I did exactly as the instructions said, but found that my hair just escaped from the plates, there didn't seem to be enough grip (I don't have this problem with straigteners.) I tried a couple of times and it was the same, no curl, my hair just looked sort of bent. I can't be arsed fannying around with something until I get the hang of it, I want something I can use now.

My Mum's just treated me to a Babyliss straightforward barrel type tong, so hopefully I'll have more luck with that.

Bloody Argos won't refund me on the YouCurl ones (something to do with it being a 'health' item ) and not anticipating this problem, I'd gone in there and said I can't get on with them. Because I'd taken them out of the packaging they won't refund them. Am now hatching a cunning plan to cleverly re-package them and take them to another branch with a 'bought them for someone but she already has them, they've not been taken out of the packaging' story.
