Short short hair cuts that work for fat faces?

Hair is all falling out on top (thanks, thyroid dysfunction and PCOS) and I'm keen to cut it all quite short so that measures I'm taking to (hopefully) improve matters will let it grow back in at not too dissimilar length. Plus I have a vague feeling that a good haircut might just help with the shedding. And if all else fails it'll be easier to stick a wig on top 😂.

Previously had a chin-length graduated bob but think that's not short enough. Currently collar-bone length, last cut in November '22, so due a good hack off regardless.

Would welcome all ideas for very short (but not horribly high-maintenance) styles that might work for someone with chubby cheeks, a double chin, a tiny nose and a fivehead. Pics below (with ineffective disguising scribbles!) to show face shape and hair colour.

Why not try going back to the graduated bob but slightly longer than chin length so the attention is drawn away from the area you are most conscious of?

I’d go for making a lot of the front section into a fringe. My hairdresser did this for a similar reason (fine hair around my face) and it was almost right back to halfway across the top of my head where the fringe started, so it took away all the fine hair to the sides too. It made it look really striking and sharp rather than the wispy hair I started with.

As for length, I know you want short short but I was thinking a reverse bob or whatever it’s called, so it can be stacked at the back with layers to make it appear fuller/thicker and then coming down just slightly longer at front section since your face looks oval and therefore would suit more length at front.

I have a full buzz cut! It's not for everyone but I love mine

ChocoChocoLatte · 21/01/2024 13:20

Mine grew back after chemo very thin. I loved my short hair with a quiff but eventually had to give in and get a fringe cut because it was too upsetting seeing 'through' it. Worth a try!

I'm chubby of cheek and have an asymmetrical cur. I've had short hair for 32 years and always get compliments. On my phone using the app so not sure if photo will post but it's like this.

Love that cut, I have a similar face shape and super thick hair, I'm currently growing out a pixie again. Is yours undercut all the way around?

ClaudiaWinklepanda · 21/01/2024 14:31

What about something like this? Your hair is a lovely colour.

@Beetlewings yes it's undercut all the way around. My hair is thick too and it sits so much better like that. My hairdresser is amazing she uses a razor instead of scissors. There is a shortage of hairdressers that can do a good short haircut in Hull but she is brilliant. Bonkers but brilliant!

Are you sure you need so much off? It suits you long. If you definitely need to go short I would keep it as long as you can at the front as in the examples from pps.

FrangipaniBlue · 21/01/2024 18:25

I was going to suggest something like @ClaudiaWinklepanda has posted.

But in all honesty OP, there's n such thing as low maintenance "short short" hair!

I have a quiff/skin fade (bit like p!nk but shorter on top) and it has to be styled if I'm going anywhere.

A lot of the time if I'm not going anywhere I just towel dry and leave it but the teenager calls me Tommy Shelby when I do that 😂

Long enough to at least hold back with a couple of clips of you every can't be bothered to style will be least maintenance.

Qualified stylist and this is what I was going to suggest. You can always go shorter.

Surely that depends on the hair? I have short, short hair and literally do nothing to it - rather than low maintenance, it's no maintenance! When the sides reached just under the bottom of my ears I was constantly trying to get it to look right, now it's shorter it is the most fuss free style ever and so liberating. I get it cut every eight weeks, the same as I always did.
