Kids shoes that last

My son in particular really seems to trash shoes very quickly, way before he grows out of them. He's 9. Or maybe the shoes are just rubbish?

Clarks seem to wear out really fast. I bought boots from Boden which got holes in by 3 weeks in. Some Mountain Warehouse boots similar. New Balance trainers the soles came partly off.

Camper shoes do actually seem to last and seem like they are good for his feet. Expensive but probably last over twice as long.

Any other suggestions?

Also in the market for girls school shoes which aren't the impractical Mary Jane style. My daughter has been wearing boys shoes but has started asking for something 'prettier'. My preference is they keep her feet dry and have decent support and structure!

Thanks

Seems exceptionally fast to wear holes in 3 weeks? I would look at if there is some sort of habit your son has to wear holes in that quick.

for your daughter Kickers might be an option? Not pretty as such but fashionable again.

Try Ricosta - expensive but can get decent quality second hand on Vinted for less than £10. These shoes have faired well on my DS. I’ve been buying only this brand for the past three years.

Sounds like a job for...Treads. The indestructible school shoes.

We actually went with super-cheap Tesco girls school shoes this year. 1/4 price of Clarks and narrow to fit my skinny Minny DD2. Not a mark on them, compared to DD1 startrite which are trashed.

My child is very rough on shoes and has awkward shaped feet. Independent shoe shops are good for finding quality shoes. Now I know what lasts and fits I can buy the brands that work cheaper online. He mostly wears Geox and Superfit.

Treads are excellent for boys school shoes. M&S school shoes are pretty good too.

TedWilson · 20/01/2024 21:52

M&S every time.

Blacknailer · 20/01/2024 22:38

Thanks for the recommendations!
Yeah I don't know quite how he destroys shoes that fast... The Camper ones seem to survive.

Dr Martens 100% for school shoes anyway.

I would NOT recommend Kickers. Bought my son some Kickers for school last year and they looked awful about 2 weeks later, all scuffed etc whereas the Docs last the entire school year with only slight scuffing. We have bought the Dr Martens Kamron style twice now.

Blacknailer · 21/01/2024 17:49

Just bought some from M&S, will see how they get on! A lot cheaper than some others anyway.

@Blacknailer

Ds was the same. The only pairs that survived were 1 pair from sports direct.

When I say they're the only pair I really mean it. He got through Clark's, supermarket shoes, kickers, timberlands, sketchers, pogs in weeks. Shoes never even last a term. The absolute worst were a pair from M&S they lasted a week before they were falling apart.

Adidas tensaur were the only ones that survived and were still in really great condition. They're in Sports direct.

emmaempenadas · 21/01/2024 21:08

Doc martens were also really good but ds found them too heavy. Doc martens survive everything.

VisiblyNot25 · 21/01/2024 21:11

Following as my son is the same! M&S, Clark’s & next all ruined within weeks…

LentilFaculties · 21/01/2024 21:28

Seconding Geox. One of mine is the same. Very active plus awkward shaped feet! There's Geox which pass as school shoes but have quite a trainer like fit which is brilliant for these types of kid.

shivbo2014 · 21/01/2024 21:39

Toezone from Sainsburys honestly has been brilliant. My daughter wore them for the whole year last year, and they remained perfect. My r year old has some this year, and so far, not a mark on them.

Blacknailer · 21/01/2024 22:57

Ha well at least I don't have the only shoe destroyer.
