Clothes For Petite Women

Where can I get clothes for someone who is a size 10, 5 ft 50 something year old woman? I just find it absolutely impossible to buy clothes these days. I really like going out and trying things on to see if they suit but there are not many shops left that stock clothes in shorter styles. Any ideas please?

Whistles and M & S both do petite ranges, as does Reiss. Avoid Zara, but French and Spanish brands are often good for this. Scandi shops like Cos are not so good.

Boden does a petite range as well.

You're simply going to have to make your peace with ordering stuff to try, though. Very few places do petite in-store any more. M&S is about the only place you'll even find short-length trousers in-store.

It also depends where your shortness is, as it were. I'm 5'2" but my body is a normal length and my shortness is all in my legs. I get most trousers shortened and have a good alterations lady on call. Or shortening skirts and trousers is very easy to do yourself if you can be bothered. I also frequently need stuff taken in on the waist, so a good tailor is invaluable. It's better to have a few things that really fit than a lot that fit poorly.

New Look do a petite range and are worth a look.

M&S 6 is about a 10 ime.

I don't generally like Boden but their petite jeans are very good.

Second Boden petite jeans!

OMG yes this - it feels like a lifelong bugbear. I still can’t understand why stores don’t stock any petite ranges when 50% of the world’s female population are 5’4” and under? Nothing sodding fits me, all the proportions are wrong as well as the leg lengths. If I could find somewhere to shop that offered decent styles and fabrics as well as a petite fit I’d give them all my damn salary.

Next usually have a small amount in their shops. Their website is good for next petite as well as Pixiegirl <cringe> and m&co petite.

M & S petite range trousers have become longer , you can get extra short in some styles but they never seem to be available in store , a bugbear of mine !

ChaoticBag · 19/01/2024 19:32

Fatface and White Stuff both have petite ranges now too.

calishire · 19/01/2024 19:35

At the age of 46 I’ve finally accepted that most clothes I buy will need to be altered, so I have found a really good tailor.

Like a PP I’ve found it depends on where your ‘shortness’ is.

I’m 5ft 2 but have scoliosis so would/should probably really be 5ft 4 to 5ft 5.

I now tend to buy fewer pieces, higher quality, and get them altered.

I find that Hobbs petite jackets fitted me as I have a short back length.
