Answr at home Keratin treatment

ICantGetNoSheep · 18/01/2024 08:33

I was planning on getting my annual salon Keratin treatment done, but at nearly £200 a go, I thought I’d look at home based treatments and found the Answr at home treatment. Has anyone used it and found it to be comparably good (or bad?!) to the salon version? Thanks!

I've used it and really didn't rate it at all, made no difference to my hair. I've had lots of keratin treatments to compare to, both in salons and at home ones.
I used their money back guarantee to get a refund.

Singinghollybob · 18/01/2024 15:36

Oh and I noticed it lightened my hair more than others ones I'd tried.

ICantGetNoSheep · 18/01/2024 15:50

Oh wow that’s interesting. Thank you so much for sharing that. I shall do more research!

I've just bought this from Amazon after seeing it recommended by someone I follow on Instagram. Planning on using it this weekend.

Cost just under £24!

Back21970 · 19/01/2024 01:40

I tried Answr a while back, think it was originally called Oh Wow or similar and it was rebranded.

I have had salon treatments and didn’t rate it at all, made my hair limp and yet still frizzy!

Unless the formula has changed I wouldn’t try it.

Watching the thread with interest though, as also can’t afford now the £150 - £200 salons are charging and would love to find a decent at home alternative.

pregnancywoes · 19/01/2024 14:44

I have used it and I really like it. My hair is thick, frizzy and wavy. The treatment made it less frizzy and more smooth. It wasn't super straight but I looked less of a mess and a bit more polished without needing to use straighteners. The treatment lasted a few months. They tend to do offers.

MorrisZapp · 19/01/2024 14:59

I've used that, it works amazingly for about one or two washes. I would use it for a special occasion but it had zero lasting effect for me.

MorrisZapp · 19/01/2024 15:03

Who was the instagrammer? That product looks interesting.

ChanelQuiltedBag · 19/01/2024 16:08

@mrsalfstewart can you keep us posted on how it goes?

mrsalfstewart · 19/01/2024 17:56

Oh no @MorrisZapp ! I was really hoping it would be the answer to my frizzy hair!

Apologies - think I've tagged the wrong person 🤦‍♀️

MrsBlac · 19/01/2024 18:09

I’ve used it a number of times. I have it on subscription. It’s ok for the price. I have shortest hair but probably wouldn’t do it if it was long. I would say it’s ok for 6 weeks. However, I have found a reasonably priced salon so the one that is about to be delivered will be the last one for now

GreenIsTheMagicColour · 19/01/2024 18:41

Look into Kativa. It's only about a tenner on Amazon and it's a 'proper' ketatin treatment. It even straightens afro hair.

Amazing stuff.

ICantGetNoSheep · 19/01/2024 21:09

Thanks so much for all the feedback and recommendations. The search continues…!

I use this one and it’s amazing. Time consuming but worth it. It lasts forever as well, on me at least.

Same here! I only really need to touch up my roots every 6 months so one pack lasts me 2-3 treatments.

You're right though, it's annoyingly time-consuming!

@ChanelQuiltedBag just thought I'd post an update as requested! I eventually got around to doing the treatment a couple of weeks ago and so far I'm really impressed. My hair usually frizzes if there's so much as a drop of rain in the air but the treatment has worked, well, a treat! I'm washing my hair every 2-3 days and just blow drying it, whereas before I would always straighten it as well and I haven't used my hair straighteners since the treatment. I don't know how long this will last for but I'm very happy so far 😊

Depends on the salon. I pay about £300 for mine twice a year which is obviously a lot but it goes proper straight and shiny, and lasts until it grows out.

I've used this one "Brazilian Straight Top-Up Keratin Treatment Kit, Home Use Treatment Kit, Salon Quality Hair Straightening / Blow Dry / Smoothing, 100ml https://amzn.eu/d/iz0N2Lt"

Lasts me just under 3 months, which basically is my interval between hair colours so it works for me. A bit of a faff to apply.

A bit of a late addition to this post, but wanted to say that I've just tried ANSWR and it worked brilliantly for me. I've had many Brazilian blowdrys in the past and I would compare this to salon results minus the salon prices. It takes a little bit of effort but I completed the process in 1 and 3/4 hours (actually much less time than a salon). I have just below the shoulder very curly frizzy hair and I used about half a bottle. I will continue to purchase this as long as I don't see any damage to my hair. I know from my previous keratin treatments this isn't a straightening treatment but a smoothing treatment. For a curly girl whose hair frizzes at a hint of moisture or the slightest breeze, this is a miracle treatment. My hair has its mojo back!

How has it been since then @Downworddog? About to try it on a section of hair and feeling cautious.

Downworddog · 20/10/2024 17:02

@fleapithome it lasted really well with no negative effects to my hair apart from a slight chemical smell for the first couple weeks. It lasted right up until my recent holiday ie. about 2.5 months. That’s only because I swam in the sea and it frizzed right up again, so I reckon it would have lasted a bit longer if it wasn’t for that. I would definitely recommend it. I’m planning on doing another treatment in a few weeks after I colour my hair first. Answr are often doing deals too, but it’s still a bargain when compared to salon prices. You just need to invest the time. Good luck!

Come back @mrsalfstewart@mrsalfstewart.

Ok I take it back. I dug out my old bottle of this and have used it twice with fantastic results. My hairdresser gasped at the condition of my hair! It doesn't match a salon service for longevity but for the price and convenience it's bloody brilliant. I will share pics if you're interested.
