I'm going to a wedding in Spain, I need a sunhat because I burn like a burny thing

I have a really great sunhat but it's very frumpy. The wedding venue is outdoor, they do have shaded areas and large sun parasols but I really do burn badly and need to have my head covered, preferably with a large brim to protect my ears and neck too. Where should I look online for a pretty hat that will be comfortable to wear and won't get crushed in the suitcase (although I would also consider a hat box if necessary).

I forgot to say preferably the simple side of elegant rather than the attention-seeking-at-Ascot end. Just not a cotton bucket had or a straw beach hat (although straw would probably be ok if it was a nice shape and had a pretty ribbon).

H&M are usually good for sun hats. When are you going as I'm not sure they'd have them in stock yet.
Also try Vinted.

The wedding is mid-May, so I have a bit of time and sun hats ought to be in stock most places by then.

If you can wait a few weeks TK Maxx usually have a good selection. I bought a straw large brim with ribbon hat for Wimbledon last year. Or Accessorize.

If you have time before the wedding Spain is the place to buy your hat.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 14/01/2024 14:15

Unfortunately the wedding is on a Friday early afternoon and we are planning to fly in on Thursday night, so I'd rather have one in advance.

I usually pack my hat in the suitcase. Just pack your clothes around it and put your socks and pants inside the crown so it is cradled all around.

I've bought a few hats from Light In The Box. They have hundreds. I searched under "straw hats".

And yes to packing the Crown with underwear 😊

I'm planning to go to Ibiza in June & literally today I bought this pretty straw hat with a ribbon; £15 in the sale online from River Island but I paid £12 with the code EXTRA20.

Hoping it will be big enough for my head & hair, it's a size M/L.

woollaroo hats. They are also spf50 and there are lots of stylish ones. They also show you how to fold them for packing.

lesdeluges · 14/01/2024 14:48

I'm sure you will find something to suit, there will be plenty to choose from very soon as the season starts.
I would accessorise the hat with a ribbon the same colour or a mix of colours that match your dress. That would look great and co-ordinated I think.
The month of May is not usually excessively hot in Spain, but you are right to be careful of burning anyway.
Have a great time!

Some lovely suggestions here, thanks. I think I have a small head as I find that hats with deep crowns fall down over my eyes and push my ears outwards, but there are still some great hats here with shallow crowns.

I've bought nice hats from sosandar. They squish down in the suitcase and always get their shape back

IKissedKermit · 14/01/2024 15:12

I bought this one last year, travels well, I squashed it in my suitcase, available in different sizes including small, this is going to link to the EU website but you can search for similar on UK website.

Edited - The crown is wider than a standard bucket
