Why do people walk about the streets in Pyjamas?

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 17/03/2008 20:16

I have noticed it over the last 12 months.People at retail parks, supermarkets and in the post office, wearing pyjamas!

Saw a whole family once complete with dressing gowns and last week in PO i saw a woman and her daughter both in them??

Find it really shocking. What on earth is going on??

Barf.

Going out in pajamas.

That's just rank.

I can't help pointing out that calling people millies and pikeys is also fairly rank

Oliveoil · 17/03/2008 20:57

and chavs

stleger · 17/03/2008 20:57

If it helps the pj ladies ( mostly in Dublin I think) are in full makeup, fresh satin jimjams and uggs. They probably spend a lot more time and effort in the look than I do in mine...

seb1 · 17/03/2008 20:58

Expat we live in Scotland the only way you would go out in your pjs is as an extra layer to keep warm

stleger · 17/03/2008 20:59

I suspect the pyjama girls have a lot more time than the original millies - working in a Belfast linen mill didn't leave a lot of time for glamour.

expatinscotland · 17/03/2008 21:00

And you'd definitely catch some looks for doing it around here, seb!

And Expat my pjs aren't waterproof so I would get a bit wet.

stleger · 17/03/2008 21:04

Never rains in Ireland...

expatinscotland · 17/03/2008 21:04

That, too.

We've had an entire 2 dry days here and there's fear of drought in the village already .

Ilovesleep · 17/03/2008 21:05

There's a mum at school usually in her pyjamas. 1st time I saw her, just thouht he must have been a late and in a rush(but how long does it take to chuck on jogging bottoms & t-shirt if you're tha late?), but now she's turning up in them everyday, even at pick up time complete with slippers! Really don't get it myself.

lou33 · 17/03/2008 21:07

lol nork

she was wearing a combat jacket and some kind of mannish style open toed sandal

they were lime green

still as long as she was happy eh?

Quattrocento · 17/03/2008 21:07

THere was a thread about school run mums in pyjamas recently

I was quite horrible on it as I recall

lou33 · 17/03/2008 21:09

i was one of those who drive in my pj's with a coat on top, but i have never gone walkabout in them

madrose · 17/03/2008 21:14

use to stay in liverpool occaisionally, load of people wearing PJs. Waiting for a bus, poping into macdonalds all times of the day. Strange

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 17/03/2008 21:20

I am going to ask the next person I see wearing them, why.Maybe we will get the answer (or maybe I will get chinned )

Apparently, it is fashionable

CatIsSleepy · 17/03/2008 21:25

was in the corner shop last friday morning-not early-when a girl came in wearing her nightie-quite a short one
i was shocked
(am probably easily shocked)

Tnog · 17/03/2008 21:25

I've never seen anyone out in their Pj's around here.

I did see my elderly neighbour in his string vest last summer when he came to discuss growing sweetcorn with me.

pattymc · 17/03/2008 21:25

pjs are the most comfortable clothes to wear, some people don't have time or can't be bothered to get dressed. doesn't sound strange to me, I never do it myself but can see what it's all about. sorry not trying to be argumentative but don't see what the big deal is, pjs, tracky bums, all the same. comfort. better than some clothes I see people wearing around here
sorry just read back and this makes me sound like I'm spoiling the fun, just ignore me, in one of those moods!

CatIsSleepy · 17/03/2008 21:28

now, what is the point of string vests?

suwoo · 17/03/2008 21:30

CHOCOLATEPEANUT- If you think Tesco Prestwich is bad, get yourself to the Harpurhey/Moston/Blackley area during the morning school run, then come back to me

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 17/03/2008 21:30

If you cant be arsed to get up and washed and changed then what a bloody waste of a pair of lungs.I am in a mood too.

No respect left in this country.

and tnog I want to live where you live, your last sentance left a lovely image in my mind.(Not the string vest but just sounded so lovely
