Trends in spectacle frames, what's in at the moment?

My Opticians are amazing with the technical aspect of 'servicing' my eyes but their range of frames is parked in the last century.
Has anyone got any good suggestions, online or otherwise, for sharp looking frames? Even from European sites and cities. I'm hindered by a +9 prescription so rimless, super light frames never work for me. Traditionally I am guided towards smaller rectangular shapes, but I can get the lenses thinned and my opticians have acknowledged their range is rubbish and will happily source from elsewhere, if I find what I want.

Nah, specs don't match anything - they're like an alien object on your face so you may as well embrace it, is my personal view.

The reason I've been looking at Etnia is that they seem to do a really good range of colour. I'm bored to death with tortoiseshell, don't want black and metallic looks invisible on me (which some people like but I don't).

I have Etnia Barcelona Brutal 2 in blue. I love them but they are not for those who like subtle. I got them because I had a similar blue pair of sunglasses which really suited me and got lots of compliments. I tried on a few of the Etnia styles and colours and I was impressed. I've not had any screw issues.

Compared to say 20 yrs ago, there are so many more routes to get brilliant glasses.
Even with a high prescription, my options have never been greater or as mainstream as they are now.
Face a Face and Etonian Barcelona are great choices.
My new glasses are due in a week. Previously it’s been 21 days and a special order.

Great thread and i love your choice @Mum5net . I've got a face a face pair at the moment that are the same shape as your gina's.

I think I have also picked some frames. Went back to every optician in town today, nowhere sells fancy stuff like Cubbit. I liked this brown and green one in Boots and am back next week for an eyesight check. Just seen on their website though they also have it in brown /tortisehell which wasn’t in the shop and trying to think if I like those better.

Btw does anyone know how much the thinnest thinning costs in Boots?

Floisme · 23/01/2024 17:11

Green!

My current pair are tortoiseshell and I'm bored senseless with them.

Sorry I can't help with the lens thinning - I have it but I can't remember what it cost and in any case it wasn't at Boots.

Thank you, I think you’re right, they’re nicely different to my current ones.

Have you got a Costco ?
Brilliant frames .. loads designer.. plastic and light.
I don't like metal and nose pieces.. prefer lightweight all in one plastic..

Moier · 23/01/2024 17:34

These are White Rose optical got just before Christmas for £69.
Burgundy colour.. lovely and lightweight.
I have similar in blue for sun glasses.
Even us pensioners don't get a discount.

They look nice, they’d be too big a frame for my strong prescription. The lady in Boots was bringing me kids frames to try today! So many adult ones are too big for me.

Mum5net · 23/01/2024 22:01

Sharp and a great price! @Moier
@CormorantStrikesBack Either of those would work. Sometimes there are two correct answers, so no wrong choice. Many of the teen frames just look look adult ones but smaller, and a good bit cheaper, again not a wrong choice.

I've not had the call to come and pick up yet.

Still have a notion to buy a sunglasses pair from Asda at £130, to include my varifocal.
