Hair suggestions to negate my full moon, featureless face

I'm a middle aged woman with no discernible cheekbones and hair not unlike a brillo pad (very thick, coarse and wavy if not straightened). It is not self-deprecating, I've accepted I'm very plain. I have tried to grow out my short hair but it really doesn't suit me long - just look like Mr Potato head with Hagrid hair. Any short hair style suggestions to minimise full-moon round face and at least make me look the best I can look? Should I be going for a long fringe? Side board type pieces onto face? Flicky out shag like Jane Fonda? Curtain fringe with centre part?

Eyebrows. And eyelashes. According to a friendly teen, primary do lash clusters you can glue on yourself.

My featureless issue is being a red head- no eyelashes or brows.
brows, eyeliner and subtle lipstick are what stands between me and featurelessness! Otherwise I’m like a ghost- just a vague outline.

Could you get your hair cut into a chin length bob and ask the hairdresser to take a lot of weight out of it, then rinse it with some oil or conditioner left in, and finger dry it so the waves become distinct curls?

Make sure you have well shaped and coloured brows as they really help balance a moon face (I am moon faced too and keeping brows reasonably thick and dark gives a lot more balance to my features.) Also do wear some smoky eye make up to widen the eyes, again to open up the features and draw attention away from the moon cheeks!

All of the above & perhaps a side parting with a fringe that sweeps across your forehead.

A chin length layered bob is going to make your moon face positively planet sized.

Never layer a bob it looks shit.

Why short hair op?

Hard to say without seeing your face but I would grow it longer. I think a short cut does nothing for plain faces.

You could have a longer layered look.

But we really need to see your face

I promise you that just isn't true. As the owner of a moon face, the worst style is a single length bob that clings to the side of the moon face. Feathering it so it has body may seem counterintuitive but it draws attention away from the moon, and the layers cut in against the cheek and jaw giving the illusion of cheekbones and jawline. I have years of experience of disguising a moonface and this is something that works.

Do you colour your hair? What colour is it and what about your complexion - fair, darker? Without a photo (blanked out in some way), I'm imagining Therese Coffey. Don't mean that to be mean (I'm of the moon as well) but just trying to get a picture in my mind.

Have you been checked for Cushing's disease, that can cause a moon mface.

Legoheadagain · 04/01/2024 19:33

@SwedishEdith I'm actually quite slim (short but size 10) and have very pale complexion and v dark, wiry hair. I love your expression - "of the moon". I shall steal it.

Regarding the medical advice, I haven't any of the symptoms of Cushing's syndrome or have ever been prescribed steroids, never mind been a long-term user of them, so I haven't been checked. I come from a long-line of podgy faced, cheekbone free women.

Short hair preferred as look even worse with long hair. I hoped someone similarly blessed might have an photo online photo from pinterest or instagram they wave at their hairdresser. I've trawled the internet but those purporting to suit round faces are shown on models who are anything but.

I will try a side swept fringe but I will have to grow it a little longer to get to feathered bob.
Thank you.
