OK I am ashamed to admit I have never gone anywhere to get this kind of treatment done. Tell me what to expect because I am scared.

Sex is fantastically much better if you are hair free... - that's why it's taken off in a big way.

ZippiBabes · 17/03/2008 14:19

well after some debate about this when bf was going to dress up as jd/sweeney todd and do it for me

i actually used scissors and the result was quite acceptable to me and him lol

the dressing up as jd is however still a future plan

just minus the cut throat razor

MrsMattie · 17/03/2008 14:21

Don't agree@Anna. Did it once, in my youth. It hurt like fucking hell, and then it started growing back and was itchy. A fanjo that stings for days then itches for days, with maybe one day in between when it feels OK but resembles a 10 yr old's - not sexy to me. My DH is one of those (seemingly increasingly rare) men who finds pubic hair sexy, too.

SydneyB · 17/03/2008 14:22

Take Nurofen first and get a hot wax done rather than a strip wax. Bit more pricey but hurts much less.

SydneyB · 17/03/2008 14:23

And agree re Brazilian. Had it done a few times a couple of years ago and the ingrowing hairs were horrendous. I mean, what can be more unattractive than a bald fanjo with big red ingrowing hair lumps all over it?

Anna8888 · 17/03/2008 14:23

If you get a good waxer (or are just good at DIY) the pain is bearable and I don't get any itching or ingrown hairs... anyway, it may not work for some, but the reason it's so popular is the one I gave

MrsMattie · 17/03/2008 14:23

Sorry, still think it is just bizarre.

MrsMattie · 17/03/2008 14:23

Sorry, still think it is just bizarre.

newgirl · 17/03/2008 14:24

this sounds bloody awful

i use a bit of bikini line hair removing cream

ok its chemicals but its only on for a few minutes

and no pain whatsoever

Anna8888 · 17/03/2008 14:25

Do you remove hair under your arms? On your legs? Do you pluck your eyebrows?

Why is it more bizarre to wax your ladygarden?

SydneyB · 17/03/2008 14:25

See what you're saying Anna, but surely a good neat bikini and a trim has same effect, I mean there isn't hair INSIDE...

Firefox · 17/03/2008 14:25

I am confused now. If it hurts so much then WHY? I always thought it was the accepted norm to have it done - esp for a forthcoming holiday.

i don't think i could enjoy sex more than i am at the moment

i think it's possibly to do with who i am doing it with than how much/little hair i have

ZippiBabes · 17/03/2008 14:26

more to do with

Anna8888 · 17/03/2008 14:27

The really important bit to wax for full orgasmic effect is the outer lips... in fact, everything south of your clitoris and back as far as hair grows

bellavita · 17/03/2008 14:27

Sydney - what is the difference between the hot wax and the strip wax?

The only ones I have had one is where the wax is applied to the area, a strip put over the top and then pulled off quickly?

MrsMattie · 17/03/2008 14:30

Shaving my pits / legs doesn't hurt@Anna. I don't have to take painkillers beforehand. That's a BIG reason.

I also strongly believe that the fashion for hairless fanjos is a lot more to do with the weird way in which our society holds up very, very young girls as sex objects than it has to do with women enjoying sex more.

See me on Cod's hardcore feminism thread!

Anna8888 · 17/03/2008 14:34

Waxing/plucking any hair on the body is painful. I don't shave as I think stubble is horrible and I don't want to have to think about hair removal on a daily basis.

Loads of ancient cultures (not just our own modern one) have removed all of a woman's body hair.

MoreSpamThanGlam · 17/03/2008 14:36

Well i have had it done and to be honest -I prefer it to the boufant wild look I was previously sporting

Trim first - this is essential...long hair means pain

exfoliated after a long loak in the bath

Wear a cotton thong

It hurts less underneath than "your little man in a boat area" - this is PAINFUL.

It took about 1/2 hour.

It feels incredibly clean IMO. Its not the sexual thing (although it helps } but it just feels a lot nicer to me. Its just a preference thing, some like to be au naturel and good for them.

Dont have a Hollywood - you WILL look like a plucked turkey.

MrsMattie · 17/03/2008 14:37

Fine@Anna. I'm not telling you not to do it. It's just not something I will ever do again. Pubic hair, to me, is sexy, it's hygenic/ it's protective and it's womanly. Waxing the most sensitive part of my body is just NOT appealing to me.

ZippiBabes · 17/03/2008 14:38

i use a bic razor underams and on my legs every day when i shower

no fuss no stubble no sopa or cream

can't quite say the same for the pubic bits

think the compromise of scissors seems to be ok and doesn't hurt

SydneyB · 17/03/2008 15:05

Bellavita - with hot wax, they apply a very thick hot wax and then let it set and peel that off rather than add a strip on top. The heat opens up the pores and it is much less painful than the quick rip of a strip wax. Redness goes much more quickly afterwards too. Much better for ingrowing hairs too. Costs more like £20 rather than £10/15.

bellavita · 17/03/2008 15:44

SydneyB - that sounds much better and less evasive. Methinks that it is worth the extra money.

binkleandflip · 17/03/2008 18:00

Hot wax is very much like pulling of a plaster. So in that respect you can control how much pain you can handle at a time as you can go as quick or as slow as you need to to peel it off - there is no element of ripping. As I say, I have very thick hair and I much prefer hot wax to warm wax.
