Boden- New Season- same as the last one.

I know, I know.
It's been done a million times (the demise of Boden.)

I used to buy 90% of my stuff from them. There was always something I wanted.

BUT out of some misplaced loyalty and optimism I do look at the new stuff.

It's the same as last season. The same styles, year after year.
Only different fabrics, all mainly garish florals or geo prints, or boring plain, and usually over £100 for a dress and knitwear not much less.

There - I've offloaded.

Do you agree?

Yes, I agree. I'm in the EU and since Brexit it's got even more expensive, and returns cost a lot too. So I very rarely buy from them any more not only on cost grounds but also because the stuff they sell these days is just... odd. The quality isn't there any more either. Back in the day I bought lots from them, but not any more.

Yes and I did think that they would have learnt their lesson and re-engaged with their customer base of old, but sadly not. I treasure a few Boden items in my wardrobe of old and hoped they would have reverted to quality, but sadly the cost is far beyond the value of the items they are selling.

I morne their good basics. I used to love the Breton tops. The quality of them last spring was simply appalling.

PangramAddict · 08/01/2024 20:06

I would mind the pricing far less if I didn't have ten year old tshirts from there made from good , hard cotton. The kind you can't actually buy anymore. Why would I pay through the nose for the same fabric as Primark?

The seem to think people were buying for the label, but we weren't. We were buying clothes that were reliable and lasted.

Exactly 👍🏻

I've looked through and I love some of the things. Basics like t-shirts aren't much more expensive than a lot of other stores and they're mainly cotton with a bit of elastane for stretch

BeaLola · 08/01/2024 21:58

Today I was just at home packing away all the Christmas decs - I had on a jersey polka dot Biden a line skirt (helpfully with elastic ated waist) and realised it's at least 11 if not 12 years old - thing is I thought if they still did sane skirtin say a navy, pink, green, etc I would buy more - looked on their website for info - nothing grabbed me

Ireolu · 08/01/2024 23:15

I haven't bought it for a long time only discovered in the last 2 yrs maybe. Mainly buy clothes for DC . Recently had to return a leggings because of a hole after 1 wear. Quality is rubbish for the price paid

New2024 · 08/01/2024 23:18

The sizing is so odd. I’ve got long arms and find they have what I call strangulating sleeves. I’m also tall and don’t want short minis

checkedcloth · 09/01/2024 05:07

Completely agree. I used to buy most of my workwear from Boden, good quality ponte dresses, great cropped cardigans etc. Smart but not Uber coporate, perfect for me.

Now everything seems to be either midi or mini length, odd waistlines and suddenly very expensive. Not bought for years now n

AnnieSnap · 09/01/2024 12:04

It’s the prices that get me. I actually quite like some if their stuff, but the fit is often way off and fabric thin. Be a premium expensive brand by all means, but then compete on quality with brands in the same price range. I do always buy Boden swimwear though. They really are the best on quality and fit there!

LemonyDrizzleCakes · 11/01/2024 13:08

It's the colours this season!

They are so bloody garish- huge prints, primary colours, or staid navy and black.

I've not seen one dress I'd wear ( I work from home mainly, and wear casual dresses for going out, very occasionally.)

The price of knitwear is ridiculous.

I'm not a Boden fan myself I would have thought that a brand with a clear identity and that doesn't change to fit in with fashion would have been quite popular on this board?

That's the issue.

It's lost its identity. It has changed to try to fit with 'fashion'.

Its prices have risen.
