Winter wedding outfit for 13yr old

We have a winter family wedding come up and my 13 year old daughter can't find anything to wear. She has very pale sensitive skin and doesn't wear fake tan so she would prefer to have her legs covered or at least a longer dress so no skater style dresses. I would be grateful for any suggestions, maybe a jumpsuit would work?

Budget?

cherrypickles · 02/01/2024 20:46

When is the wedding?

What shoes will she wear

What does she usually wear? Does she like clothes and where does she usually shop? I mean she buying from misguided or next kids!?

I love these threads!

Height/ shape / adult or child dress size?

Wedding is beginning of February - in Ireland so will be cold and quite likely wet!

Flat shoes or small heel - she's never worn heels before.

Only really wears jeans and leggings -doesn't have much occasion to dress up! Doesn't shop online, just local high street like sport shops, H&M, Primark.

Tall girl, maybe 5'6" and very much adult body shape, size M or 12

Thank you for your suggestions, I've never heard of Childrensalon before, will browse some more on that site.

I would buy the shoes first and then the outfit.

There is a trend of wearing skin coloured thermals leggings and then pattered of sheer black tights in top! Primark have love heart tights

I love opaque tights but sometimes they don't feel right at a wedding?

Then a knee length dress in a dark-ish or jewel satiny fabric with sleeves. Also need a jacket or cardigan. I'd personally avoid summer florals but some people wear pastelly "wedding guest outfit" all year round .

I love that but I don't think she will ..🙄

Thank you, v helpful, she wears back tights with her school uniform so we were hoping to avoid tights but maybe I could convince her. Might be the only way to get away with shorter style.

She's a redhead so jewel colours would look pretty on her.

I like this from chi chi and they have a lot on there!

Would this work?

Yes black tights are a bit schoolish. This with some love heart tights and some flat Mary Jane's would be nice I reckon?

I just don't know, worried she would think it's too old, 13 is such an awkward age, she's a child with the body of a woman

What about something like this?

Alternatively, I’d take her into her favourite shop, maybe with a friend, and give her the ‘brief’ of finding an outfit she’d like to wear. She’ll come up with some horrors, but she may also surprise you.

When I was 13 I wouldn’t have touched any of those and definitely not the sequinned dress!

Something trendy but slightly grown up would suit her. As I’m not sure of her style I’m not sure what she’d wear but it might be nice if it’s something she could wear again, maybe a nice skirt and top.

bettynutkins · 02/01/2024 21:44

What about this sort of thing? Hopefully it links correctly. Shouldn't be a dress but a certain style.

I think with flats it wouldn't look too grown up but also not babyish either.

The skater style chiffon dresses are perfect for your dd’s age but I see she’s rejected that idea. Maybe you can persuade her to wear with patterned tights?

Personally I wouldn’t go for the dresses linked. They’re the sort of thing toddlers and young primary school girls wear and your dd could get really embarrassed if there is a girl of similar age wearing something more sophisticated.

For reference at 13, one of my dd’s friends had a pretty little thing dress. At 13, dd decided PLT was too grown up and she settled on a ruched dress with a high v neck from new look for a party. It was a little too large so didn’t look sexy. Not much out there in this sort of look. The closest would be something like this. https://www.roman.co.uk/petite-ruched-front-stretch-dress-14442709 Hers was more ruched so less fitted.

Otherwise something like this? https://www.next.co.uk/style/su126181/Q58680#Q58680 Am not terribly keen but it looks like a slightly more grown up version of the little girl dresses. You could team it with a faux fur bolero from eBay perhaps.

Or would your dd go for the y2k vibe? This in a slightly larger size. Or perhaps you can find something a little less fitted, perhaps a skirt and top. https://www.next.co.uk/style/su046693/102618#102618

River island have a nice red jump suit in age 15, can't link for some reason 😫

Ladies thank you so much for all your suggestions, I'm going to go through them all with her later but some fab ideas there!

I think it’s a tricky age to buy for even if you’re ok with your body.

Defiantlynot41 · 03/01/2024 10:47

A lot of those linked seem a bit slinky for a 13 year old - if she's ok with it then great but most of the ones I know would cringe.

A few jumpsuit suggestions

Something like this with tights? https://www.finerylondon.com/ebony-fig-knee-length-dress-d07f056-fig

Just noticed she's a redhead, the river island red jump-suit also comes in powder blue. 😁
It is a tricky age to buy for I agree.
