Warm wellies for fat calves

Dh bought me a pair of neoprene lined Le Chameau wellies for Christmas. Lovely and I can just about get them on but they feel super tight and uncomfortable on the loosest 'setting' - are there any other types/brands o should be looking at? I do a lot of walking with our three ddogs so comfort is paramount! Thanks 😊

Le Chameau come in different widths so maybe you can change for another size in the same brand. I love mine!

I bought some Grubs Frostline wellies after a recommendation on here. Nice and roomy on my chunky calves, and neoprene lined so warm.

BuffaloCauliflower · 01/01/2024 22:07

They’re not wellies (they’re better) but I have some Dublin equestrian boots with extra wide calves and they’re amazing. I’m not in the least horsey but they’re fully waterproof, really comfy and fit properly on the foot. You can walk through anything in them.

Mumaway · 01/01/2024 22:08

Dunlop Blizzard wellies. I have some, and they are incredibly warm and comfortable even for long walks. Not especially stylish unfortunately

Muck Boots

Grumpsy · 01/01/2024 22:10

Either some Grubbs or muck boots if you’re set on wellies - if country boots would suffice try some ariats - the Windermere’s are amazing and waterproof - I have some and use them for all yard work as well as dog walking and horse riding

and I have very wide calves

Pumpkintopf · 01/01/2024 22:17

Thank you - didn't realise there were options in the Le Chameau will have a look also muck boots look good, will have a look at the others mentioned too.

Currently have a pair of country boots similar to the Dublin equestrian mentioned and they've lasted years but sadly the sole is now letting in water and as I have gone vegan I won't buy leather for my next pair.

After years of trial and error

Aigle!

GCAcademic · 02/01/2024 07:05

Yes, Aigle. The ones with the adjustable strap (Parcours Vario).

Mackeroo · 02/01/2024 07:15

I have some Dunlop Blizzards and can only just get them on, wouldn't recommend for wide calves. Grubb boots are good.

borntobequiet · 02/01/2024 08:04

Aigle . My normal ones are warm enough for me, but my DD has neoprene lined ones that keep her very warm.

stillawip · 02/01/2024 08:24

I have Cabotswood ‘Highgrove’ wide calf boots - a bit like Dubarrys but without the price tag!!

rbe78 · 02/01/2024 10:26

I have the Barbour neoprene-lined ones and they are good for my wide calves.

Pegsmum · 02/01/2024 10:28

Another vote for Aigle, the Parcours have Iots of calf room and so comfy.

HJ40 · 02/01/2024 10:32

Jileon.

Gorgeous designs.

I've never really noticed the warmth/cold, but thick socks would sort that.

muddyford · 02/01/2024 11:11

I wear men's Aigle as they are larger in the calf department!

mumu54 · 02/01/2024 11:20

Another vote for Muck boots

educatingrati · 02/01/2024 13:25

Woodland boots. Inexpensive (compared to other brands mentioned) comfortable reasonably grippy, although no good for scrambling over rocks. Good for wide calf and feet. Last years, although the grips eventually wear down and become more slippery.

Another vote for Muck boots

I hated my muck boots, they aren't particularly wide in the calf, they have beggar all grip on wet grass, and aren't particularly waterproof once you get to the neoprene.
