Cos 'dry clean only' wide-leg tailored wool trousers

Hi everyone,

I was about to buy these trousers but noticed that they're dry clean only:

I'm really lazy when it comes to going to the drycleaner. Does anyone have these and machine-wash them at home on a cold wool cycle (with no problems)?

I’d machine wash them on the wool programme so it does a slow spin. Iron while still damp and put on a hanger to dry. They should be ok.

Thanks @KeepScrapingBy - I'll take my chances!

I reckon they will shrink... keep us informed!

Mercurial123 · 30/12/2023 04:25

I wouldn't. I bought wool trousers from COS and was told by the assistant serving me that they were fine to wash. They shrunk and were unwearable.

I have similar and wouldn't risk it. Like men's suit trousers, you just don't wash them. Dry clean when needed.

Thanks @Mercurial123 and @aramox1

I'm still in two minds! I have some dry clean only clothes that are fine to be machine-washed. I've only had one dress shrink.

@Zucchero I will let you know if these trousers shrink in the wash!

They are so generous it might not be the end if they shrink a little.
A fine closely woven wool fabric might wash better than a more felted flannel type but it is a chance you take.

Floisme · 30/12/2023 08:18

They're 100% wool with a cotton lining so that's a double chance of shrinking. I don't think I'd risk machine washing either and I very rarely dry clean.

Dry cleaning wipes off Amazon and a handheld steamer and they will be fine

stardust777 · 30/12/2023 20:34

Thanks for the advice everyone!

@grayhairdontcare I've never heard of these before. Is there a particular brand that you'd recommend?
