The messy bag trend is one trend I am all for!

I agree with the unexpected shoe or coat “ a little bit imperfectly”… I do it all the time.
Disagree birkies are out… you will prise them from my cold dark feet…

Amara123 · 25/12/2023 10:54

I think Birkies have gone into the classic category now, adore them.
Comfortable shoes will stay in.
Love quiet luxury, aka classic pieces in natural fibres. Easy to coordinate and comfortable to wear. Jewellery is the thing now that adds interest to an outfit, good classic pieces are in vogue.
Capsule wardrobes with good basics are in, fast fashion is out.

I started my career in the shift dress era and am so thrilled with the tailored trousers and shirt combo - it's all I wear now, so I am pleased it will be sticking around! Especially as it looks good with flat shoes which was always the struggle with shifts.

I also have about 8 piercings in each ear with multiple huggies but as she says this is less of a trend and more of a style classic now. But glad about that too.

My arizonas are probably decades old.

LoobyDop · 25/12/2023 13:02

I have to say, I usually quite like Jess Carter-Morley, but that article is so badly written it’s almost unreadable.

KirstenBlest · 25/12/2023 13:15

It is badly written. It's hard work just looking at it.

dudsville · 25/12/2023 22:58

I'm so glad others are commenting on the writing, I didn't grasp a lot of it, but regarding the points i understood...

  1. Birkenstocks, shmirkenstocks, they're staying in my feet.

  2. And the wrong coat/shoe theory, this isn't new, right? Along with understated luxury?

qpalbfy · 25/12/2023 23:19

Would somebody mind linking to some examples of the smart trousers and shirt combo please?

Username5678910 · 25/12/2023 23:22

I find Birkenstocks so uncomfortable, they give me blisters on the soles of my feet. I've had my Madrids for something like 15 years and they look nice but god if I need to walk anywhere...

WeAreBorg · 26/12/2023 09:18

I’m also pleased about the quiet luxury aesthetic and proper trousers/shirt wearing. We are very behind the times up this way so I can probably get away with wearing my gold for a little while yet!

Dinkydoo17 · 26/12/2023 17:29

I need to read this.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 26/12/2023 17:35

I can't stand her, so generally if she says I should be wearing something, I say, "Fuck that'. I really cannot understand why anybody would pay her to write such shite.

LadyBird1973 · 28/12/2023 21:55

I don't get it. Why would you deliberately wear the wrong shoes for the weather or a coat that doesn't go with your outfit?
That just says fashion victim to me.
I like the shirt and trousers for work wear, but I think that's less about fashion and more about the post Covid lifestyle. Most people would baulk at wearing their trackies on a day they have to actually be in the office and formal office wear feels too much - trousers and shirt are the halfway house.
