Needs to be big enough to hold phone and purse, around the £25 mark.

Not fussed what material.

Many thanks 😊

Although not strictly a shoulder bag, this is the price you wanted, and size;classic looking with good reviews.

Can you get to a TK Max?

Britpopbaby · 15/12/2023 07:26

The bag that @Ariela posted looks hood but having bought it and returned it at the start of the year I don’t recommend it at all due to the clasp coming undone all the time which would make it easy to lose things or have things pick pocketed.

I agree. The clasp isn't good and it doesn't hold much.

I’ve seen several older ladies with the cult Uniqlo bag, it’s very practical

As per @Pinkpinkpink15 it’s got to be TK Maxx, they’ve got loads more in store near me than online but if you’re nowhere near one, this is quite nice, choice of two straps as well.

I did wonder what an "older lady" is and why , absent any particular physical issues such as arthritic fingers/ possible mobility issues putting on a cross body bag, which might be age related , what a suitable bag would be.

Thank you everyone. I looked in TK Maxx and they were all too expensive.

Re older ladies, I do think people in their 70s generally have differing taste to those in their 20s hence making the distinction, but point taken.

I am 75. I love lots of the leather bags on the bags threads and would buy some of them if I hadn't got a bag collection I need to downsize!

. I'd rather have the Uniqlo bag than a faux leather 25.00 MS bag.

dreamingofsun · 17/12/2023 18:55

has she asked for a handbag? If not i would try and think of something else that isnt so costly. £25 doesnt go far where handbags are concerned.

pizzaHeart · 17/12/2023 19:03

would the weight of the bag and type of closing be an issue?
Im not an old lady but can use only lightweight bags due to back issues also don’t like clutch and can’t stand open bags for safety reasons, I prefer zip.

I'm 64. I don't even like the Uniqlo bag but I'd still take it over any of these faux leather bags.

If I weren't buying leather for cost reasons I'd buy something which is obviously not leather and not pretending to be leather.

Perhaps something like these Earth Squared bags.

This looks good value from Clarks.

That's perfectly acceptable. That sounds like I'm damning it with faint praise - I'm not. It's a perfectly acceptable, everyday, not showy leather bag.

It's the only one so far I'd give house room to.

sunshinesupermum · 17/12/2023 20:15

I'm 75 and love bags!

musicalfrog · 17/12/2023 23:29

Really, thank you all so so much. I've had so little brain space lately and you've helped me out where I was stuck.

Lovely ideas above which I'm going to put to good use! Merry Christmas to you all x
