Stylish trousers with a stretch waist!

i hope someone here can understand my problem!

I have endometriosis issues. As a result of an operation that went wrong back in summer, I’m left totally unable to wear any of my jeans or buttoned trousers without horrible pain. Sadly I’m not much of a dress/skirt person so can’t get away with that.

I have been living in leggings or joggers, size up jeggings at the absolute limit - but as it seems this isn’t going away anytime soon I really would like to find some less casual trousers to wear!

Can anyone recommend some brands for stretchy waistband options? Something smart/structured and stylish for those rare occasions I need them? 😆

For reference I’m a UK 18 and 5’9.

I am wearing these right now and they are the comfiest trousers I have ever worn in my life. Like pyjamas but smart enough for work.

I am the same size as you and have stomach issues which means I can’t stand anything other than stretchy elasticated trousers, my favourite place to get them is Yours. Lots of different styles.

Hush Regina leggings
leggings so super comfy, but the thicker ponte material and side zip makes them feel a bit smarter- I feel I can get away with them in the office. Love love love my pair. Currently on sale down to £40.

I have trousers from Bon Marche for work and the quality is just as good as my M&S ones. I also noticed a few pairs of elasticated ones in George and F&F when doing the weekly shop although I can't comment on the fit and quality but you could always exchange them for a refund quite easily.

@LifeLifeInAHamsterWheel I'm a size 10 and the Zara M fits me well. I'm about a 36"hip and 31" waist.

If you really need a soft waistline, you can't beat the stretch-and-drawstring suggestions above. I've got most of 'em!

If what you need is the low waist to hip ratio but can stand a waistband, look for bottoms with a high elastane content. My new favourite jeans are a proper denim with 5% elastane, and I'm in a size 12 Shock I think the sizing's strongly understated here, but the great thing is they fit my bum without acres of flapping fabric where it shouldn't be. My M&S size 16s with elasticated waist are comfy, but very baggy on the hips.

Roman Originals generally seem cut for the wide of waist, and also lie through their teeth about sizes. I've got some of their 12s with 4% elastane and some 14s with 2%.

Adding my numbers: Waist 94cm, hip 110cm.

Edited

I have a smaller waist and bigger hips - 35” waist 46” hips - not much bum! My issue is that any waistband that isn’t 100% soft fabric stretch is unbearable right now due to abdominal pain. Hopefully after my hysterectomy it will improve and my old trousers can come out but god knows how long that will be.

Im going to check out Bon Marche in town today and Next! 👍👍

I've got a lovely pair from Sainsburys of all places. They were a summer style but I wear them all year round and for smart occasions too.

TheCatterall · 13/12/2023 13:30

@kurotora im a size 18/20 and 5’11” and love the marks and Spencer’s pull on trousers they do. I’ve got some cream, black and checked ones that are in constant rotation right now. Nice thick material, flattering and get lots of compliments on them.

I need the long ones but think you could get away with the regular ones.

try some in store/ at home and once you find what you like - there are loads of them on vinted for £5+

KirstenBlest · 13/12/2023 13:38

Trousers with yoga style tops might work.
Maternity trousers might be another option - a friend wears them even though she's past childbearing years

sometimesinthefall · 13/12/2023 13:54

Toast's Gaby trousers were a lifeline when I was in the same situation as you - they're above your budget but they often come up on Vinted in that price range.

Frosty1000 · 13/12/2023 14:48

Fellow endometriosis sufferer here so I fully get where you are coming from.

I like the stretch trousers on niche website also the ponte leggings from Sainsbury's.

In summer I love magic trousers, but they're a bit thin for winter.
