Wedding Dress for Petite 46YO

So, I have lots of time until next Sept, and tempted to wait until new season options.

But struggling with height and do not have anyone trusty to alter, plus a lot of designs have feature hems.

I have found a couple that look suitable but they are very sensible… Will they make me feel old?

I am very petite. I bought my wedding dress secondhand on eBay and put more of the budget into alterations instead. Mine had a lace hem and train but could still be altered - they took it up at the waist (reasonably straight style of skirt made this easier; not sure if it would work for all shapes).

I've got a phase eight one that is calf length on the model but perfect full length on me. Suppose it depends on style you want. I am in my 40s. I'm just under 5ft so really struggle. But total opposite to you as big chested also so those higher neck designs would look atrocious on me. It hasn't needed any alterations and looks like it was made for me as a long dress

Just to add, a petite dress that sits at ankle length would be too long for me. But maybe that's because most petite stuff is for 5 ft 4 and under and I'm really under that 😂

I think regardless of OPs height its wise to go into any wedding dress assuming you will have to have it altered hemmed regardless of if you are 4 foot or 6 foot... wedding dresses are designed with extra fabric so they can be custom altered.

Obviously it can be hard to alter a 'regular' size dress down by over a foot or so but if you get a petite range dress you still should expect to have to alter/hem it to your length... its rare a wedding dress is a perfect fit off the rack for anyone.

Agreed @housethatbuiltme , I didn't have anyone trusty to alter my dress either but you just find a professional and factor it into the cost.

I think it's hard for anyone to comment OP, we don't know your size or style. Ignore your age and what you think a 46yo should wear. If you want to wear a Ghost dress, do. (Incidentally I planned to wear the Ghost Claudia dress for my wedding, but in the end found a Justin Alexander proper bridal fit and flare mikado satin dress that was a much better (albeit much more expensive!) choice.) I don't think it being 'very you' or predictable is necessarily a bad thing, if you have a set style.

I don't know your budget, but if it's high street but reasonable then I'd look at Reformation and also TH&TH. This is gorgeous from Reformation and not predictable at all. If you have a bigger budget, I'd find a bridal boutique that stocks styles and designers you like and get a 'proper' wedding dress. They don't have to be fussy, mine was similar to this

My 50+ year old petite cousin bought a gorgeous bright pink dress that she now wears for multiple occasions
