Are there any short, wool coats in the world?

I’m looking for a wool coat to wear with casual outfits, like jeans and boots. I’ve got a smart long coat for formal wear but would prefer something shorter and more relaxed, like a pea coat. I’ve had enough of rustly puffers and stiff waxed cotton and yearn for the little casual coats that were everywhere in the 90s and early 2000s. Ideally, I want the beautiful navy wool coat I bought from Next in 1995 but sadly I can’t find anything like it in the shops at the moment. Has anyone seen anything that might fit the bill?

I'm looking too! I saw one in jigsaw but the reviews said it was poor quality (and it was expensive)

I think that one was in my shortlist- but I tried it on the other day and it really didn’t suit me. More New Romantic than Cool Britannia.

That’s a lot of money for a wool mix coat. It’s big even pure wool.

Ive been looking for similar.

I saw this Mimi Berry X Gloverall one on the MB instagram account - it looks very nice! - look on the insta post because it looks much nicer there

Have you tired the Ted Baker ones? They have all their colours in long and short options usually and usually look quite smart with jeans

Ooh, thanks for the ideas.

A bit more early 2000s than 90s (my uni flatmate had a similar coat)- I love this Ted Baker one.

I haven’t bought from Ted Baker before. Anyone know what the sizing is like?

I seem to have spent all the last week online looking in vain for a similar thing. I had the perfect black wool jacket, it looked great with jeans or more formal clothes, not too light or heavy, then I lost weight so it no longer fitted and I sent it to the charity shop.

I want wool blend, ideally single-breasted, and slant pockets that I can put my hands in, funnel neck a bonus.
I thought I'd be able to find one really easily, nope.
The closest thing I've found to the perfect shape is from White Stuff...but it's not wool it's velvet.

Seasalt? and check their archive sale on ebay

I sent a beautiful Jaegar pure-wool navy peacoat to a charity shop because it was too big for me. It was sooo warm and very soft to the touch.

Not sure if this is too long? It's 75% recycled wool. Bit pricey at £310, but that's Sezane for you. Comes in Navy and Sand.

Look on ebay and vinted

toenails · 12/12/2023 20:38

Though not navy, I grant you . . .

LaChienneDesFromages · 13/12/2023 09:05

Thank you to whoever suggested Vinted. There were plenty of the type of coat. I am looking for, mostly because they are completely out of fashion!

I have just bought a lovely secondhand Red Herring peak coat. I also succumbed to a beautiful navy blue Nicole Farhi one. I remember yearning after her clothes as a teenager in the 90s when reading Cosmopolitan. I really do need to grow up.
