Talk to me about your dress for your second wedding…

I’m getting married for a second time and am hugely undecided on what kind of dress I’d like. On the one hand I’m enticed by the idea of the full on floor length traditional wedding dress, but I did that first time round. I’m also drawn to a Lily Allen second wedding dress style, as it would be completely different.

what did you go for?

How many times has your partner been married? It would be a shame to deprive them of a big day (and a beautiful bride) because of you being stifled by your perceived societal norms.

For my second wedding, I had a custom-made floor length dress, with a long veil, massive bouquet, bridesmaids, page-boys, the lot.

No less than me and my husband deserved!

I think the lily allen dress is lovely! Hope and ivy have some lovely styles that are sort of bridal but not bridal if you get what I mean. I wore an off the peg Ted baker bridal dress for my second wedding with a custom
veil (it was more about the veil for me). It’s clearly a wedding dress and couldn’t be worn any other way but for my first wedding it was jeans and boots so I wanted something more special.

This was my second wedding dress. I didn’t go for a full meringue, but I loved my dress.

Get the floor length one and enjoy yourself hun. You only live once x

Name-changed as it’s kinda outing!
My lovely mum made my dress for my second wedding. It’s like a flowery net over a cream silk. I thought a nod to a typical wedding dress, but a bit more colourful, alive, and me. And I wore New Rock boots because they’re comfy, they suit me/my personality, and why not?

I wore an oyster coloured dupioni silk dress. Knee length. I thought it would be elegant.

My second was in Lapland so I wore red velvet with a black cape. Third was a hot destination so I had a tea length dress in ivory silk. Go for whatever you want

MrsMitford3 · 10/12/2023 10:34

I wore a long wedding dress and a veil.
Initially I was going for something less "bridal" but it was my DH first wedding.

I was widowed and it was all a bit emotional but I realised when i thought of being a bride and a wedding I didn't want it to only be my first wedding-that this one was also special and important and I am glad I did.
I wanted DH to have that and I came to see I wanted it too-didn't want this one to be "less"

Def no right or wrong about any choice-good luck

I never thought 3 divorces to be glamorous, but destination weddings are so much cheaper than UK ones. And the photos were nice

@Namechange1113 your dress is beautiful

NorthernSpirit · 10/12/2023 13:43

I’ve recently got married - I’m early 50’s, my first wedding and husbands 2nd.

We eloped to NYC & I wore a Champagne sequin knee length dress from a New York designer.

I didn’t want a traditional wedding dress, I wanted something to show my figure off and reflect who I am.

Wear what makes you feel a million dollars!

It’s not that I don’t feel I should, it’s that I fancy something different. Second wedding for him too but tbh he wouldn’t care if I turned up in a bin bag, he’s just so happy we are getting married (we’ve known each other a long time, lost touch, “found” each other again)

these dresses are all absolutely gorgeous. I love how different yet beautiful they all are. Thanks for the tips on the non bridal bridal dresses, I’ll have a look.

@Posypointshoes that's what happened with me and my DH. 24 years apart and just happened to be right place, right time. Married 5.5 years now.

You don't need it, but I wish you all the best and a long, happy, healthy marriage 💐

salamirose · 10/12/2023 18:51

Wear whatever dress you really want to wear just make sure it looks sufficiently different to your first as that's probably dated now

This is absolutely gorgeous, it's very like a Sassi Holford. Your mum is very talented.
