My understanding is opaque tights are the thick ones. You need some transparency. I love that dress though :)

I love it, and would wear that if I was 30 years younger. I agree with wearing sheer, nude tights with it.

It's ideal for a party. I avoid polyester as it make me feel hot and stuffy but might not be a problem for you?
I would stick with the opaques and ankle boots you suggest, not sheer.

no sheer and opaque are opposites!
sheer = transparent, thin, you can see your skin through (whatever the colour)

opaque = thick, can't see through, (opaque literally means the light doesn't go through a window is transparent a door is opaque) usually 40 dernier or 60 dernier. Can be any colour but most often black.

At your age I’d wear sheer tights and show off my legs. At my age (40s) I’d wear opaque tights - nobody wants to see my old legs!

Actually I'd go for really shiny opaques like the Gatta ones, 40 denier maybe. I've been to 3 Christmas do's already, no sheer tights but lots of shiny opaques!

Definitely not nude... black sheer would look great. It's a lovely dress.

Depends on your colouring, if light hair I'd go with sheer nude, if darker then sheer black.

Lovely dress but I think black opaques (lowest denier you can get). Black or nude sheer tights always make me think of old ladies! (Sorry).

As PP said, sheer tights are on trend now, but I'm confused by the comment of black opaques in the lowest denier you can get - by definition the lowest denier will be sheer?

Lovely dress. Perfect style and cut for work party. I've never seen black sheer tights look good. Black opaques with ankle boots would be nice. If you wear nude sheer tights then you could wear shoes or sandals.

It's fine for a party, but I wouldn't wear it to a work party. However, I suppose it depends a bit in where you work.

Give that it's both short and low cut, I would definitely wear black opaque tights. Sheer tights are fine if going out with friends.
