Boy's occasion wear that isn't too 'boring.

Hi all,

My 5 year old has a few events coming up (fancy afternoon tea for a 70th birthday, close friend's wedding, various Xmas parties etc) and I have been struggling to find any occasion/ party wear for boys that isn't just a plain mini version of an adult man's 3 piece suit.
I would be ok with a shirt and waistcoat etc if it was a bit different and not so dull.

Ideally I am looking for something with a bit of colour or sparkle or a cute print/ embroidery etc
There seem to be lots of options for girls in this category but I can't find anything for a young (very slim waisted) boy.
I have looked in the sections targeted at girls but he won't want a dress or skirt and most party type tops seem to have a frill or a flare.
If anyone has any recommendations I would be very grateful!

I always put my sons in Next or M&S chinos and a really nice top from Boden for these sorts of occasions. Smart and comfy and somebody usually comments on the cute tops

I do like the Mini Boden designs usually but can't even see anything there at the moment that ticks the boxes for me.

Have a look at Gresham Blake, there are some top discounts on childrensalon.com, and lots of other fancy boys party gear, waistcoats and cravats etc but this caught my eye. There’s a purple waistcoat that would be quite cool over the top, if you’re into that sort of thing 😍

My son is only 2 but I also don't like the very blokey outfits. Try Spanish kids clothed for ideas, then hunt the bits down on vinted. I like shorts/ dungarees with a long sleeve t shirt with Peter pan collar, and possibly a festive jumper. Long socks compulsory. Dungarees particularly are great because they are a bit like a dress .... in that it's a whole outfit in one.
