Going to overhaul my make up bag tomorrow- what should I buy?!

Need to completely restock my make up bag.

I’m early 40s, fair skinned and pretty clueless about make up

I wear quite minimal make up so just need something for my skin, eyebrows, mascara . I also need nail polish and have very weak rubbish nails

Where should I start?

I’m going shopping in person and will have access to a larger Boots & larger M&S, a Benefit shop and Space NK

Thanks

For your nails try Nail Envy or Sally Hansen nail strengthener. You can usually get different colours.

I tend to only wear minimal makeup on a regular basis, but this tinted moisturiser is amazing. It blends really easily, and leaves my skin looking healthier and glowy rather than caked on. Combined with a little creamy blush and brows, it’s perfect for a natural look

Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Natural Skin Perfector SPF30 | Space NK

Lock in moisture with Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Natural Skin Perfector SPF30, a tinted moisturiser that protects skin from UV rays.

Laura mercier tinted moisturiser (space NK) still the best after all these years

they do a good eyebrow pencil also, but whatever brand you go for go for a cool tone, warm tones look weird and wiggy on everyone. They also do good crème blushes

Clinique high impact zero gravity mascara - it’s important to get the zero gravity one because a) it curls and b) it’s a tubing mascara so it won’t budge until you take it off with warm water

Bobbi brown do v good quick counter make up lessons if there’s one of those. Their tinted moisturiser is good, though not quite as good as LM, but if you want some extra polish their foundation brush (in fact their brushes in general) are great. Saying that boots brushes are a great budget alternative.

have fun, I love days like that

L’Oreal true match foundation, Elf tinted brow gel and Estée Lauder double wear smudge proof mascara. Total around £40-45 and all from boots. The foundation comes in lots of shades and it’s worth picking up two or three the first time whilst you figure out your shade, it’s really blendable and you can range from a touch under you eyes to a full coverage face. it doesn’t dry or cake. The elf brow gel goes on with a little mascara style wand and it comes in lots of shades. The mascara doesn’t flake and is the best I’ve found.

I spent years buying the likes of Benefit, Dior, Bobbi Brown- but the above products are my three highly recommended essentials.

I’d also strongly recommend an old school metal eyelash curler before mascara.

For cheeks, Daniel Sadler liquid cheek tint is amazing, it just wakes your face up and you can use in your eyelid crease to add depth to your eyes. Look up ‘Beauty and the Boutique’ as she recommends this and does tutorials.
