Cleaning silver jewellery with stones in?

Tried a silver cleaning cloth but it wasn’t great.

I have a lovely silver pendant with a topaz in ( it was my Mum’s so it is very precious to me) - what’s the best way to clean it?

Thanks.

I would use fairy liquid or similar and rub the tarnish off with a soft cloth.

Scrub gently with a soft toothbrush and some Fairy Liquid. That will get out all the actual dirt.

Polish with a soft silver cleaning cloth. The Waitrose one is excellent and is the one I use and supply to my clients with any pieces they buy from me. Avoid harsh cleaners like silver dip as they can cause damage.

If you are still not happy then take it to a jeweller to be cleaned.

Thanks. There’s no actual dirt in it, it’s just tarnished. I’ll try the Waitrose cloth. Could I use a dip for the chain?

Best way by a mile is to use an electrolysis plate with soda crystals. Zero effort and tarnish disappears. I have some silver stone set stacking rings (topaz, garnet, tanzanite) and they come out looking like new. I've had my plate for donkeys years but they are readily available online.

It works brilliantly on chains as well

Put some tin foil in a bowl with hot water and then add a teaspoon of bicarb of soda. Science happens I forget what science specifically but it does work.

This is cool. I love science. Off to google….
