Christmas do outfit - I cannot wear heels

I have got a seriously dodgy weak ankle that's in recovery from another strain recently, plus an arthritic big toe on my other foot. I can risk wearing heels any higher than about an inch 😭 waaaaaaah. Otherwise I'm a slim pear shape, but long back/short legs and my legs definitely benefit from a bit of "lengthening" otherwise I look dumpy.

My work Christmas do is slightly more casual this year (drinks, food and a band at a sports club type place), I was hoping to wear a fairly short lace little black dress that I bought a couple of years ago for Christmas but didn't wear (will attach a pic). But what do I wear on my feet if not a pair of killer heels?!?!

The only thing I've got that doesn't involve a trip shopping is a pair of black chunky Chelsea boots which I thought I could maybe wear with glittery tights.

Wear some party trousers instead? Then you can wear flats?

Meadowgrasses · 03/12/2023 11:02

Or long boots with the dress?

Meadowgrasses · 03/12/2023 11:03

Or the dress and shoes that you can walk in - I’m sure you will look lovely and no one will think that your legs need lengthening. Would you think that about someone else?

ChristmasDoDos · 03/12/2023 11:09

Thank you I'm a bit lacking in the shoes department, I can try to find some time to go shopping, not sure about party trousers but will have a look!

Knee length flat black suede boots?

TiredEvenForAPhoenix · 03/12/2023 11:14

I haven't been able to wear heels for a long time either, and I do feel it at this time of year but chunky boots look great with dresses. I have a beautiful velvet dress for an event coming up soon that is crying out for high gold sandals but I can’t so I don't and that's it! I've got some suede flats and some ankle boots and I'll work out what looks least frumpy and go with it - at least I'll be able to walk!

ChristmasDoDos · 03/12/2023 11:21

For context I've just tried it on and taken a pic

It's not a very clear pic from the side but hopefully it gives an idea

Flats with sparkle or class or rich colour and a great shape.

thedevilinablackdress · 03/12/2023 11:53

That looks great, I'd totally wear that on a night out @ChristmasDoDos
You could go with a finer denier or glitter or coloured tights, but it's great as it is too.

I think that looks fab OP. You've got great legs. I never think knee boots work with a short dress. I love knees boots but only with midi or long.

That looks good. I'd wear flat black lace up boots or a pair of flat black patent pointy ballet flats which have a black velvet bow.

Tbh, I don't think "killer heels" with that dress are right anyway- unless you're channelling being a Robert Palmer girl- which looked good in its day, but that was in its day.

Looks really good!

More contemporary too

Panderoo · 03/12/2023 12:08

I think that looks good, I was going to suggest low to mid height wedge shoes or boots. I have sore feet and they actually improve pain levels.

ChristmasDoDos · 03/12/2023 14:34

Thank you, think I will jazz it up with some sparkly tights and leave with at that then! I only go out about once or twice a year so it's always a drama finding something to wear!!

Theblacksheepandme · 03/12/2023 14:53

Not sure about sparkly tights myself. I actually think the tights you have on are perfect with that dress as it is lace type material. If the dress was a plain material, the sparkly tights might work. What jacket and jewellery are you wearing?

whoscoatsthatjacket2012 · 03/12/2023 16:50

I wouldn't wear sparkly tights just a thinner denier.

Nice fab jewellery and you're all set

ChristmasDoDos · 03/12/2023 17:38

Thank you for taking the time to research and post an actual list of shoes! I actually quite like those red ones 😁

OP posts:
LookItsMeAgain · 03/12/2023 17:40

You're welcome @ChristmasDoDos. If you went for the red shoes (the ones in the image) you should go with a max denier tight of 30 denier.
Your dress is lovely and it's so disappointing when you have something nice in your wardrobe but nowhere to wear it. Well may you wear it now!

TheOGCCL · 03/12/2023 17:57

Your original outfit looks good to me. I think shorter skirts work well when you have short legs (me too) as there's more leg on show so it tricks the eye.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 03/12/2023 19:53

I like your dress OP - and I would wear it with sparkly tights and ankle boots too.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 03/12/2023 19:53

Just seen your pic and you look great .
