Flattering festive jumper?

I'm looking for something christmassy to wear at a few things in the run up to Christmas and NYE.

I'm a bit out of shape this year following illness. I'm slowly getting back into exercise but don't look or feel great. I'm a tall size 18, 34HH boobs, a bit of a waist but an appalling tummy following illness and c section a few years ago. Is there anything which won't make me look dreadful but will still count as a Christmas jumper? Nothing gaudy / novelty / light up etc, but something with a bit of...something? One of the events asks for christmas jumpers specifically and although I know I don't have to, the event involves young people I work with, so I don't want to be a stick in the mud.

Help please 😣

Can’t you just get a Christmassy pin badge? Christmas clothing is a nightmare, loads of it is bought and binned, it’s such wasteful thing.

FestiveFrederica · 08/12/2023 18:46

I won't buy it and bin it though - that implies a level of impulse purchasing and thoughtlessness! I would hardly be starting a days long thread about it if I was just going to buy it to bin it

And a scarf was suggested^^ and I'm considering it. Pin badges are utter tat, destined for the bin or to fall down the back of a sofa. At least a scarf keeps you warm and is somewhat useful

I disagree having had a Poppy pin badge for years and years and years. There is a charity who have come out with the stats of festive clothing and how many people buy it and then never wear it again, it’s interesting reading. You don’t need to get offended, it wasn’t a dig at you personally.

Christmas clothes are washed , put away in the attic in a vacuum bag and come out again next year , They don;t need to be binned Xmas Hmm

I've got jumpers that are 1+ /5+ years old and still going .

I appreciate that you do this, but I think you’re in the minority. Sadly a lot of people are buying them on a whim and then chucking them away.

I’m not making it up, there were some stats released recently. I’ve try and find them. Unfortunately fast fashion means people buy stuff, wear it once and never again.

It was a personal comment.

I have no intention of buying and binning. I have a lot of secondhand clothes but have recently stopped buying it due to bedbugs. Now kindly move on. Your comments aren't about me according to you and they surely are irrelevant to me so please go away 👋

All my kids' Christmas clothes are hand me downs as well.

Also, as I said at the beginning, I've had weight gain due to illness. It is difficult enough finding things I like wearing at the minute. I have a job and it includes working with vulnerable young people who want a bit of a fun christmassy day. I am not rocking up with pursed lips and a wee pin badge thanks.

Honestly, the competitive frugality / virtue signalling on this site sometimes. And then "no need to be offended. It wasn't a personal comment" 😒. Pfft

Last post on this topic but one more thing:

I said I am looking for something a bit more subtle that doesn't have a great big, light up rudolph on the front etc. I would wear something more subtle all winter. A secondhand Christmas jumper is less likely to get worn if I don't even like it or it's a novelty christmassy item which can only be worn up to Christmas.

I'm so annoyed as I almost predicted this sort of comment from someone on here. As night follows day on S&B someone will comment "what about secondhand?" or "why do you even care what you look like?" and it's so bloody tiresome.

I've done my share of no buys, low buys or secondhand only buys. On this occasion I want to buy something new. PSA 😂

Rant over.
