Would you wear this to a business dinner?

I work for a public company and support our Board of Directors in a sense. There's an out of town meeting that I've been invited to and it includes dinner one evening in a very nice restaurant with the board and our executive leadership team.

By coincidence I have a couple of "big" social events coming up and I thought I could justify splurging a bit if I'll get a lot of use out of a dress. Now that it's arrived, I'm wondering if it might be a bit "much".

What do you think?

I think it's too fancy for a work dinner unless it's a party.

I think it's 'a bit much' for a work dinner to be truthful.

Agree it's too fancy for a dinner but lovely for a party or formal event

Times may have changed but in my day, no one changed for a business dinner after work. We just wore what we normally wore into work. If you're unsure, could you ask the person arranging the day what the dress code will be for the day and the dinner?

I think it's nice. Those boots look god awful with it though. I'd go for chunkier ankle boots. Looks a bit hot/sweaty for my liking though.

Nope.

Plain black knee length dress always ok for a business dinner.

You want to appear more interested in the substance of the gathering than the fashion opportunities. Unless it's the fashion industry, of course.

This has become increasingly difficult in my view. It very much depends on the culture of the business and those likely to attend.

OP, you are probably better following your own instinct

Stunning dress and I wouldn't be able to resist buying it either. I think you'll find it really useful for social dos but borderline for the work dinner

Can't edit on phone. If you worked in a creative environment it would be fine

It's got a Goth vibe to me, so no.

wannabetraveler · 28/11/2023 23:18

Thanks for your input. I agree it's a bit goth.

I like it - depends on how tall you are and how long the dress falls - midi worn with boots is fine but not maxi .

GreatGateauxsby · 30/11/2023 19:49

I think it’s looks kind of dated - I’m not a fan.

if it’s expensive I’d go for something else…

I'm 5'10 so it's a decent length, not maxi.
