Face moisturiser

Could anyone recommend a face moisturiser please?
I want it for daily use under make up and the main criteria is that it doesn’t ball when applying make up.
I’ve tried a few recently and the one I liked most has been discontinued and is also £50 for a small jar.

I use Liz Earle light moisturiser in the summer and then the one in the green pot in the winter.

I love this www.facetheory.com/products/amil-c-whip-m5-spf-30?variant=39321528696893 from facetheory. Goes on beautifully, smells great and (I think) really does brighten and smooth my skin.

I don't often re purchase skincare, I find things usually over promise and under deliver - but I have the facetheory moisturiser on subscription!

Hate myself for advocating this but Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream
Mic drop

A CT make up assistant put some on under some make up he was trying to sell and I reacted immediately. My face came up immediately in really big red welts. The poor assistant nearly collapsed and said he'd never seen it happen to anyone before. After twenty four hours, it had more or less gone and by 48 hours it had disappeared completely. I have no idea what ingredients are in it that are not in other make up products but there is something my skin doesn't like!

In hindsight I'm quite glad as its really expensive?

I use this - recommended by make-up artist:

Embryolisse - Lait-Crème Concentré

It makes an excellent primer under foundation.

I’ve also heard really good things about Clinique moisture surge. I thought Kiehls was genuine skincare?

Mintearo7 · 27/11/2023 20:06

I also love cerave (the blue one). Not expensive and I recently had a facial and the beautician said I had great skin so she had no need to try sell me any of her own products.

I'm loving SOS H20

Crikeyalmighty · 27/11/2023 20:22

I often skip moisturiser as such if I'm wearing make up and use Clinique dramatically different hydrating jelly- give it 3 or 4 minutes and then do make up.

I don't know much myself and am looking for pretty much the same thing as you.

It was something like Kiehls doesn't contain any active ingredients so its pointless applying it. And just pick one that you like the look and smell of as thats the only benefit of it. I can't find the thread now and expect its the same for many moisturisers.

Ahh right. Well I don’t want actives in my
moisturiser, I use other things for that.
And I avoid fragrance in as much of my skincare as possible as it makes me react/break out so it doesn’t smell of anything.
As I say, it works for me. I’m not looking for anything revolutionary in my skincare, just to not have a dry face and to not aggravate me.

I actually really like the night cream! It’s a very love/hate product though; most people
i know hate it because it’s so sticky!
If I’m using it I put it on early evening so it’s not gloopy on my pillows and I don’t use it often as it’s quite fragranced but I like it. More than the day cream but that’s okay too!

Stillwearingskinnies · 27/11/2023 20:59

I like the Elizabeth Arden visible difference replenishing hydragel
I have normal (occasionally dry) skin and I'm 49.
It goes really well under makeup.

Elemis Peptide4 adaptive day cream is absolutely fabulous for use under makeup. Moisturising but dries to a matte finish. I love it.

Moonshine5 · 27/11/2023 21:14

@TheChosenTwo it's funny because I don't use any CT makeup

Housenoob · 27/11/2023 21:19

I know you asked for moisturiser but you later mentioned SPF- I swear by Altruist SPF 50 face fluid. Mix it with whichever moisturiser you use and it goes on beautifully and doesn't feel heavy or greasy.

Aesop Camelia Nut or The Ordinary are my favourites.
