Help please, my 12 year old needs a coat now she’s outgrown kids coats I just can’t find anything. She currently living in hoodies. But then complains she’s cold.

  • she’s autistic so sensory issues is a big thing, she can’t wear elastic round the wrist, it can’t be too puffy or too heavy. Easy to tie up.
  • she’s a size 14 women’s but the long sleeves are an issue .
  • Id like something that doesn’t look like it belongs to an 80 year old
  • she’d like something that looks/feels like a school coat and not black.
  • budget is tight up to £70.
  • Ideally high street so she can try before I buy.
Any ideas really appreciated

Just a thought- had you considered a sleeveless gilet to wear over her hoodies? Coats can sometimes feel a bit bulky and restrictive if you have sensory issues, so I’m told.

I have a similar challenge for my 9yr old DD. She needs it to be lightweight, not restrictive, zip not button, no fur, nice feeling fabric, not quilted, smooth lining and no teddy fleece. Pockets for pine cones and bottle tops etc.
I used eBay visuals to whittle down her preferences, then found a Columbia ski jacket with discount online. On their website it's £80 down to £56.
Girls Alpine Free Fall II jacket. Maybe take a look at that?

Maybe try Zara. There are a few which might meet the criteria you've listed. This one, for example, might work? (Not sure about the cuffs)

I bought 13yo a parka from Next Petit last week. It was £95 so a little over budget but fits all the rest of your criteria.

How about something like this?

My teenager refused to wear a coat from year 7-9, but last week finally common sense finally prevailed and shes now actually wearing a coat on the school run. They do grow out of their no coat phase, eventually
