Socks for men that don't leave fluff all over the carpet 😡

Husband currently has mostly M&S socks and everywhere he goes they leave a trail of small bits of black fluff. These fluffs have carpet-gripping barbs stronger than Arnie. And definitely stronger than the hoover. I pick them all up with my fingers. One at a time.

Husband has just airily mentioned that he is going to buy some more socks. So, before I kill him by means of sock-fluff suffocation, please advise me where I can buy non-fluffing socks?

They need to be black ankle socks, pretty thick. The ones he likes are a cotton/polyamide/elastane mix. No need for pure Egyptian cotton woven by virgins.

Note that I do the hoovering because I'm a sahm, not because my husband is allergic to the hoover. There is no need for me to LTB. The sock issue is his biggest fault.

I have honestly never heard of (or seen) this...

But how about wearing slippers?

funbags3 · 23/11/2023 16:33

The only ones that I've found are the thinner ones. Bamboo are comfortable, warm, and thin. The fluff from the thick ones drives me to distraction.

PopcornAndGummyBears · 23/11/2023 16:40

Oh good grief! I need these too! We have the exact same issue and it is the bane of my life! DH also wears M&S socks and they aren’t even new - some are probably 7/8 years old easily so I have no idea why they are still shedding fluff!

It drives me mad.

We have a pale grey carpet and these little black dots are the only thing we ever see on it - you can trace the wee trail from his side of the bed to the bathroom. I too pick them up by hand Angry

DH does not see the problem, I am irritated every.single.day by it!

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 23/11/2023 16:42

DH swears by Uniqlo socks but quality can be hit or miss.

PopcornAndGummyBears · 23/11/2023 16:43

@PumpkinsAndCoconuts DH does wear slippers, but the problem is when he takes his socks off at night before bed and deposits the aforementioned fluff off the bottom of his feet onto the carpet. (Any not deposited onto the carpet makes it into the bed and is left on the bed sheet)

I live in socks and trainers and my socks do not shed like this. When DH wears sports socks they also do not shed fluff - it is just these M&S ones.

isthewashingdryyet · 23/11/2023 16:43

Wool socks, look at Arbon socks, or Howies.

and get him to wear slippers

ChristmasShopping23 · 23/11/2023 16:43

I have just bought a pair of thermal M&S socks for myself and I have the same problem with black bits all over the carpet!

Lovethatforyouhun · 23/11/2023 20:09

I always wash them inside out before he is allowed to wear them.
(I do the washing, he does the cooking, no need to LTB)

I feel your pain. My first husband didn't have this problem but it's a real problem now!

jimmiedodger · 23/11/2023 20:31

😆 so it's not just me! I thought it must be some unique combination of the socks + my husband's sweaty toes, because surely a major retailer would not be deliberately inciting people to husbandicide? But no, apparently they are.

I will have a peek at Uniqlo, thank you.
Unfortunately I don't think he'll go for really thin bamboo socks, or wool ones, but thanks for your suggestions ☺️

It’s definitely not just you @jimmiedodger and I too thought it was some kind of indication of DH having oddly sweaty/sticky feet (even though I know he doesn’t)

We don’t have a Uniqlo here but DH regularly travels to London for work so I might encourage him to go and in and have a look. (I do miss him those weeks he’s in London but my carpet is the cleanest it ever is during those weeks!)

Dobcaty · 23/11/2023 21:04

I have the same issue with my DH('s socks) as soon as I hoover (quiet often as we have a LO who started to crawling and picks up everything from the carpet) he walks in and it's EVERYWHERE! Gosh it makes me maaaad 😅😂. Just sent a screenshot for him haha
BTW bamboo socks are the same
