Long lasting lipstick, white tie event / ball. I really need your help, please!

Hello! I am going to a ball and really need a long lasting, smudge proof lipstick that won’t peel/crack.

I will be getting my hair and makeup done (professionally). But we will be going out to dinner and to an additional reception etc (before the official opening).

I am therefore expecting to (re)apply my lipstick after dinner.

but I never manage to find something with staying power that doesn’t peel or crack….

please help. I am starting to get rather desperate tbh. And I don’t want to look at the photos and see that I have smudged or cracked lips…

Maybelline Superstay

Mac velvet blur slim lipstick in Sheer Outrage lasts really well on me. I always use Mac Primer as a base too.

This would be my specialist subject on Mastermind. The best I've tried are the Lisa Eldridge True Velvet range. Intensely pigmented, non drying fade evenly, last all night through eating and drinking.

What I do for events where I put on makeup at 6am and might take one look at myself at 2pm before continuing on is to use the staining part of Max Factor Lipfinity as a base coat, and then a nice glossy moisturising lipstick on top. Then its super easy to reapply the gloss part with a swipe

I use lipcote (a clear liquid) over my lipstick which seals it for hours. I maybe only top up once on a night out. Can get it in boots etc

PiggieWig · 22/11/2023 12:40

Dior does a really good one that survives dinner and a few drinks. It’s a bit spendy but you get what you pay for with this one.

Maybelline superstay is quite good but I find it dries my lips out.

Thank you so much for the recommendations! I will definitely try them.

@KirstenBlest the Maybelline ones unfortunately don’t work for me :( either make my lips peel. Or can’t be reapplied when they partially wear off ime.

@Sparkletastic The colours look wonderful! I’ll definitely try those if they ship to my neck of the woods… thank you, oh lipstick mastermind 😜 can they really compete with liquid lipsticks in regards to staying power?

@PiggieWig is that the forever liquid lacquer or the forever liquid lipstick?

@CMOTDibbler can you reapply the liquid lipstick if it wears off (partially)? Or do you need a completely „naked“ lip whenever you apply (or want to reapply…) the colour?

@learieonthewildmoor Ooh, a good lipstain (never found a good one since my favourite has been discontinued). Thanks!

@yellowlane thank you for the recommendation. I’ll have to google this!

@Cantonet how does it behave with food / look after eating?
and drinks?

I do find the Lisa Eldridge lipsticks perform far better than the many liquid lipsticks I've tried. They are non-sticky but have great longevity. With liquids I find you often lose a patch from eating, or they get claggy / lumpy, then look dreadful when you apply more to touch up.

The chanel double ended ones

I bought this the other day and it is really good and smudge proof. The sales woman put it on me in the shop because I didn’t believe a glossy red wouldn’t smudge!
