Products needed to use hair straightners

Hi,

What do you all use before using hair straightners so as to not damage hair?

Do you wash and condition and then apply a product whilst wet, or apply a product on dry hair before using the straightners? Or do you do both?

I don't do it anymore, but Kerastase was the best. Pricier than generic stuff in Superdrug, but it goes a long way. I used the Nutritive range - the shampoo, and Masquintense conditioning treatment once per week, followed by the cream leave-in Resistance heat defence.

The great thing about the Resistance leave in (green tube) is that it continues to activate to protect from heat up to 220. Any cheaper product made my hair greasy or had no protective use at all. You can get decent deal on Amazon.

So wash as normal and apply some of the Resistance cream to the lengths of your hair. Then let hair dry or blow dry. The protection re-activates when you apply more heat. Whilst harsh treatments such as straightening are never great, this is about as good as it gets for maintenance.
Never place straighteners on wet hair, make sure it is bone dry before using them.

I use a straightening cream by osmo ( purple tube off Amazon) then a spritz of heat protection spray - currently using Lee Stafford one. Both of these on damp hair.

I then blow-dry completely, section off and straighten.

Heat wrecks your hair. Have you ever thought about a keratin treatment. I do it every winter and have straight smooth hair for months.
