Teenage fashion

Can anyone give me advise on brands etc that are on trend for teenagers? My niece turns 13 on New Years Day and I would really like to get her a piece of clothing that she would be happy to wear (getting vouchers for Christmas so want to actually get her something physical for birthday). I understand that Nike black leggings/crop tops and hoodies are 'in' but does anyone have any other suggestions?

It really depends on where you live and what kind of teen you are!

So you have the Ralph Lauren jumper/Longchamps bag brigade

Then the Stone Island/Palm Angels lot

And somewhere in between is Nike, Converse, Vans

North face seems to be fairly universal.

Thank you!!!

My 12yo wears:

Nike pro leggings or shorts
Crop tops - tied with a hairband at the back so they are tight (!) - usually primark seamless ones
Hoodies - from the Xmas gifts thread white fox seem to be popular - probably come from Tim Tok.

Comefromaway · 20/11/2023 11:32

I forgot about White Fox, they seem to be everywhere at the moment with girls.

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 20/11/2023 11:33

White fox for hoodies anything North Face. We've just ordered our nearly 13 year old a gilet as she's requesting that and some Uggs!

skgnome · 20/11/2023 11:37

Ask the parent!!!
I know North Face are popular, but my almost 13yo hates North Face (not a popular opinion, I know) - however she does loves oversized hoodies (which almost every teen wears)
so check with the parent first
again tops, half her friends wear crop tops, the other half oversized T-shirts

I really don't think 'teens' all like the same thing. Yes they are exposed to the same things on social media and there are trends the same as there are for anyone but a lot of it boils down to what their personal 'aesthetic' is, a lot of the time where they are/what's popular at their own school and so on. I'd just ask what they like and send a voucher. The chances of an adult who doesn't know what they like actually getting a specific item they really want, that fits the way they want it to even if the branding is received well, is so unlikely and I've never know a teenager not prefer to just get a voucher or money and get their own in those circumstances.

I've got two teenage nieces - one's 17 and dresses in a sort of light academia/bohemian way and buys most of her clothing from charity shops or vinted and the other's 16 and I've never seen her in anything other than blue jeans and some sort of black jumper, or leggings and a sports hoodie at home.

Brandy Melville has been popular a few years, mix of basics are amazing quality and their dresses are nice

Thisismynewname123 · 20/11/2023 12:34

@juljulesagainstana my 14 year old told me that it's no longer cool to wear Brandy Melville, something that mums have always known. One size does not fit all and BM is shamelessly sizist. My teens want White Fox hoodies, like others said. Also Named Collective, lululemon leggings, Nike pro leggings, iets Frans, North face

Backtoreality1 · 20/11/2023 14:26

Thanks for all the input. Her parents are clueless so that doesn't help I'm afraid, and I really wanted to avoid any more vouchers as she is being inundated with these for Christmas. Some of these ideas are a bit pricey but I am sure I will find something.

It does depend where you live a bit. I know that I see stuff recommended on here that DD would not like at all. She and her friends wouldn't countenance North Face or any type of leggings, for instance.

DD quite keen on this place (similar to Brandy and I remember 13 being the peak year for Brandy Melville obsession). It does have a limited range of sizes and the colour palette is a bit less pastel.

White Fox hoodies popular here!

Iwanttheraintostop · 20/11/2023 14:44

My 13 yr old DD likes Nike Pro leggings, Brandy Melville, Urban Outfitters (Iets Frans), Subdued and Hollister. Logo tees are popular and not silly prices (still a bit pricey mind you!) We're SW London.

Celebrationsnakes · 20/11/2023 14:53

Surely it's different for all of them. I have a 13 yo and there's no way he'd like all these brands. He likes classic, smart, sophisticated clothing. I know you're talking about a girl but my point still stands.

Beamur · 20/11/2023 14:58

Does it have to be clothing?
My DD never thinks clothing is a good gift and wouldn't wear any of the brands listed.
Unless she chose it and it was probably second hand..
Does she have any hobbies or interests? Make up? Bubble tea? Arts/crafts? Books/cool game?
