What happened to soft dungarees for children over 4?

My son loves the soft parsnip frugi dungarees but he’s grown out of the 3-4 years which is up to 104cm. I can’t find any for the next size up! Dungarees in general seem to disappear from shops and the only ones I can find are hard denim ones. Anybody know where we can buy something similar?

One alternative would be looking at small shops on Instagram but they only go up to 6-7 in my experience. You'd be looking at £30+ for them as well.

I think it's because once a kid is over 4 they usually go to the toilet on their own and it is hard for them to take them off???

Or maybe not 🤔

Greatfull · 20/11/2023 07:05

Yes I would imagine it's because children wouldn't cope with them once they are toilet trained.

Sarasara1983 · 20/11/2023 07:07

Some more scandi brands like duns sweden I think go in bigger sizes?
also could try turtledove London?

cyclamenqueen · 20/11/2023 07:08

Dotty Dungarees does older sizes

Sarasara1983 · 20/11/2023 07:11

There’s quite a few on sale at turtledove London at the moment. They go in bigger sizes

Fantasia99 · 20/11/2023 07:25

I stopped using these as my son couldn't go to the toilet on his own which most kids start doing at around that age. Would have been a nightmare for nursery staff too. You could try somewhere like Tiny Fibres that will make pretty much whatever you like!

Yes agree you need to think about the toilet thing plus they do just look a bit toddler-ish! Even on grown women in my opinion but everyone should wear what they want!

WhatNoRaisins · 20/11/2023 07:31

Agree it's because of toilet training. I really miss dungarees for my youngest.

But then why do they have denim ones?

The denim dungarees are far cooler than those other ones.... kids look like giant toddlers and will surely be laughed at!

Wahwoo · 20/11/2023 21:15

I imagine the denim ones are worn by older kids who are more confident dressers (even if they are on smaller sizes).

I suspect 3-5 is the peak age when the can go to the toilet alone, but can’t do anything too fiddly.

but the other frugi clothes and parsnip pants go up to that age?
Oh well I’ll just have to tell my child that’s it 🙈 he pulled the same ones out of the dirty washing to rewear.

I think he likes the comfort feeling of the straps but also that they’re soft. I like kids dressing like kids personally I wonder if I’d have more luck abroad.

Being cool means nothing. If you teach your kids to care about being "cool" then it fits they're going to laugh at those who are not.

Alternatively we teach our children to appreciate individuality and that their comfort and enjoyment is more important than anyone elses opinion and then noone will be made fun of.

Also, the only reason they look toddlerish is because they don't make them in bigger sizes so we don't see bigger kids in them.
