Long-sleeved, crew neck top - soft, breathable fabric, not thin, not knit

Where would you go for such a thing? Also keen for it to last a few years

I have a couple from white stuff, they are a really thick cotton, wash and wear well and nice and soft too.

Something made out of merino wool? It is very soft, thing and has a bit of stretch from the knit.
