Hi my daughter’s 18th is coming up and I would like to get her a vintage necklace. She’s very into second hand /used clothes. I don’t think she would would want a current brand like Pandora or Tiffany which I think her friends have been getting.

. I don’t know where to look though and how to establish what would be good value. Any pointers gratefully accepted.

she doesn’t like gold so I would be looking at silver or white gold I guess.

thanks

🤔

I was just going to suggest looking on Etsy for vintage/ antique jewellery. There are plenty of sellers with lots of good reviews, and you can cross refer to similar pieces to check the prices are reasonable. But I can’t promise that George Clooney or Rishi Sinai will be involved.

Typo - Sunak

caringcarer · 15/11/2023 21:58

I've bought some lovely second hand jewelry on eBay.

covetingthepreciousthings · 15/11/2023 22:01

I think if you're going to spend that much it needs to be something that she truly loves so why not take her on a shopping trip to some nice antique jewellers so she could choose one?

Maybe you could invite Clooney and Sunak..

covetingthepreciousthings · 15/11/2023 22:03

Ps York has some lovely antique jewellers

cheesehater · 15/11/2023 22:06

Thanks for the more sensible replies. I did wonder what I had asked!

it’s a good idea to go into a shop I guess.any recommendations? We are meant to be going to London for a few days.

If you're going to be in London Gray's Antique Market is just by Bond Street tube and is really good, my engagement ring came from there.

Ask Michael Baggott: https://www.instagram.com/baggottsilver/?hl=en

There's absolutely nothing he doesn't know about antique silver, he'll know the best places to go to find something special for the budget. His email is in his insta profile.

I had the nicest day there a few years ago choosing myself a locket for my birthday (DH job was to insert kids photos into it, but dammit I was going to do the choosing!)

Jewellery is such a personal item. I would definitely involve your daughter in choosing something she loves and will wear.

Tiffany's is so overpriced and overhyped.

Iwantmyoldnameback · 16/11/2023 09:11

Us Hatton Garden still worth a trip? It certainly used to be.

cheesehater · 18/11/2023 08:16

After the very helpful suggestions about going to an actual shop I did a bit of Googling and found this https://thehirstcollection.com/collections/necklaces which looks ideal. I liked some of the other suggestions too but was a bit worried in case we saw something we both loved but it was well out of budget !

Look in Grays Antiques, or Kojis at Liberty.
