I have been searching high and low for something Christmassy to wear to my works night out. I didn’t want to go in the first place so I’m feeling a bit demotivated by the whole thing and have completely confused myself.

Ive bought this Red dress and it arrived today and it’s incredibly flattering. I’m happy with the dress BUT what shoes do I wear? I don’t like heels, I personally think they look dated. I usually wear one of my many pairs of boots but this dress seems too feminine for boots? What do I need? Ballet shoes? Tbar? Mary Jane’s? Please can anyone help

Should have also said…what else should I wear with it? Necklace? Tights? Earrings? Hair up/down?

I just feel like I’m second guessing everything because I don’t want to go 😭😂

I would go with ballet flats, sheer tights, and gold jewelry like christmassy earrings or hoops or a thick gold necklace.

justanothernamechangemonday · 11/11/2023 18:49

I immediately go to gold accessories with that colour. Some gold heels - scrappy mid heel or court style, with some gold
Hoops and a gold necklace. But that's what I'd wear!!

Broodywuz · 11/11/2023 18:54

Lovely dress. Agree OP, don't think it would go with boots. I would go similar to the model pics, strappy sandals or courts. Because it's sparkly I would keep any other accessories minimal, pair of nice earrings maybe.

Vinoveritass · 11/11/2023 19:02

I'd go chunky block heel sandals in a light neutral colour or even black. Sling backs. Not court shoes that would look dated I think

Godofwar · 12/11/2023 10:17

Thanks so much for the tips! I think gold is definitely a plan. Red and gold suit my colouring so will head towards that. Does anyone think these shoes might be ok? Shoes

Perfect.

Possimpible · 13/11/2023 10:02

Oh sorry OP, I'm not keen on those shoes. They give me 2002 school shoe vibes. What about either of these from Monsoon : 1 or 2

Or if you want a closed toe: 1 or 2? (But sizes are limited)

Godofwar · 13/11/2023 11:12

They are all quite ‘heely’ though and that’s what I was trying to avoid. I am not too keen on heels. I do get the school shoe comparison though 😂

I agree 100% about heels looking dated. Strappy heels with that would be unimaginative and dated. Your choice is much nicer.

1 looks like a "perfect mother of the bride shoe" on the sort of website that specialises in MOB. That's not meant as a compliment.

2 is ok but OP's "school shoes" are much nicer.

Possimpible · 13/11/2023 13:16

@Godofwar It's the buckle! Fair enough, how do you feel about flat Mary Janes like these or these? I think a heeled t-bar could look nice too but appreciate you don't like heels.

@SukeDamson It's obvious from other threads we have very different styles. I posted 4 links so I'm not sure which you're talking about - the first two are a nod to Esska and Loeffler Randall at nearer OP's budget. The second two I'm not keen on either, but they are IMO nicer versions of the shoes OP likes.

DiamandaTheGreat · 13/11/2023 13:53

I'm presuming you don't want to wear opaques tight, OP? I thought pointy black flats would be nice if so - I have some M&S.lesther ones with a leather bow that would work. But if you don't want tights then I like your gold shoes. Boden have some nice block heel gold sandals in the sale if you thought you could face a mid heel! Open toe though.

Godofwar · 13/11/2023 15:01

Definitely open to black opaques. Open to most things honestly. Just don’t want to look like a twat 😂

The second 2- Jones and Debenhams - neither are in any way nicer than the ones the OP posted.

In your opinion. In my opinion, as I stated, they are. They were just suggestions for the OP, it doesn't really matter if you like them. You're not wearing the outfit.

floofbag · 13/11/2023 18:06

Black cowboy boots ✅

SadAsHell · 13/11/2023 18:11

I think completely flat shoes would absolutely ruin this dress and give it "12 year old girl at a wedding" kind of style. Defo needs a slight heel in whatever style you go for!

floofbag · 13/11/2023 18:06

Black cowboy boots ✅

I agree. Or even black patent doc marten style boots. Can still go with gold jewellery.

Blackeyeliner · 13/11/2023 18:29

You could wear ankle boots if they have a stilleto heel. Not sure if you have boots like that.

Spudlover · 13/11/2023 18:40

Another vote for the black ankle boot route. Something like these

Big earrings, hair down.

Sidebeforeself · 13/11/2023 18:43

Not Mary-Janes! Personally I think they look ridiculous on grown women and, paired with this dress, you’d look like you were going to your best friends 6th birthday party.
Agree with suggestions about ankle boots - what about the metallic ones that are everywhere at the moment?

Homewardbound2022 · 13/11/2023 18:47

I think you need some kind of heel, OP, for posture if nothing else.
Then big hair & big earrings!

Edited

These are low heel but perhaps a bit more ‘glam’? Not sure if still within budget as a bit pricier.
