How to shrink a pair of jeans

Hi everyone! Could anyone advise on how to shrink a pair of jeans please? I think the shop had their sizing off and I couldn’t possibly believe I would be the smaller size and have ended up with a lovely pair of jeans but they are a bit on the big side (they are still wearable but I would prefer a more snug fit). They have been worn a handful of times but not washed yet. Has anyone got any ideas for how I could make them a bit smaller? They could do with being a bit smaller in width and length. Thanks all

A hot wash, or tumble dry I’d think. Hard to predict how much they will shrink though.

Yes hot wash and tumble dry but you may find they bag out again with wear and you’ll need to keep doing it. Also be careful if they are not pure cotton and have eg spandex in.

I think people used to sit in a hot bath in their jeans back in the 70s to shrink them to skintight didn’t they? Had to do it several times iirc.

I thought it was a cold bath but yes we did sit in the bath in our jeans. That was followed by having to lie on the bed to do the top button up. The joys of rigid denim.

I tried the hot bath technique with some Levi’s that I’d bought and it was the most uncomfortable and awkward thing I ever did and it didn’t even bloody well work.

I’d take them to a local seamstress and see if they can’t take them in for you. It might cost you a wee bit but they’ll be perfectly tailored to you and won’t bag out again like they do if shrunk in the dryer.
