Face cream packaging - the annoying little lid

What's the point of the annoying inner lid? Why don't they just put it in an airless pump? Any tips for keeping the inner lid clean? I sort of just hold it in one hand while smoothing the cream on with the other but I think cream application would be nicer with two hands.

I just pop it on the side upside down. Or ditch it completely.

Doggymummar · 09/11/2023 21:30

Chuck it away is what I do

PurpleChrayne · 09/11/2023 21:37

That mofo goes the same way as the annoying ribbon ties that come in the shoulders of tops.

Bin for you, mate.

The only inner lid I have seen is the one you peel off after you've unscrewed the actual lid. Surely you just throw that away? I think though that you must be talking about something different?

So I have like an outer lid. Unscrew that then there's a plastic inner lid that just sits on the lip of jar and it often has a really tiny flap I can just about grip with my fingers and then lift up and it's covered in cream

Aaah actually yes I have seen that but not for a long time. I think I used to take if off and place it upside down on the dressing table, or if I got fed up with it, just throw it away.

mdinbc · 09/11/2023 21:44

I always toss it. Scrape off the product first of course, every little bit counts.

largeprintagathachristie · 09/11/2023 21:46

I throw those away/recycle them. Use up whatever cream is on it first.

Putting it back each time would be madness.

GLC789 · 09/11/2023 21:47

It's purpose it so that the cream doesn't gather in the actual lid if you were to travel with it. Nothing worse than loosing a chunk of clinique when you unscrew the lid, because your suitcase got tossed around in baggage!

They are proper annoying though, no denying that lol! X

FuckingHellAdele · 09/11/2023 21:52

What I do is try and balance it on my finger, to place carefully on the dressing table dry side down. Then what I do is jerk my hand randomly, so that the lid falls to the floor, cream side down, rendering the lid now covered in fluff, and hairs, that could be human, could be dog.

Then I throw it away, and never ever think 'oh if only I had that inner lid back'

Oh! I assumed it was to somehow protect the cream from air 😄

Yes I've tried that too! I just assumed it was an important part of the packaging somehow but it never comes with instructions!

@LittleMooli that's exactly what I used to think until the counter lady at boots corrected me lol!

I tend to still throw it away though! And just scoop enough into a travel pot for going away! Imagine loosing a full 50ml bottle of your bags got lost! Take my clothes!! But don't get in the way of my anti wrinkle cream! X

youveturnedupwelldone · 09/11/2023 22:23

Ooh that makes sense about travelling with it! Generally I don't take my large posh skincare away with my i decant it. But I do if I'm away for a couple of weeks. I might save one of the annoying inner lids for that purpose!

LittleMooli · 10/11/2023 06:03

Right in the bin they go! Mumsnet saves the day again!
