SOS cant wear the same dress as the bride!

I am going to a close friends wedding in two weeks. They are having a small wedding at a registry office then have got a private room in a hotel for lunch and that's it. The hotel is a 5 star city hotel so very swish, young, fashionable. There will be 16 people total.

I have the green satin Meryl dress from Ghost in a large and I love it. I was feeling smug and ahead of the game thinking I was all sorted then i spoke to the bride... She's wearing the meryl ghost dress in blue along with an adorable birdcage veil and some lovely shoes.

So, back to the drawing board. Any ideas? I'm 31, size 12 and quite busty. I like jewel tones but happy with anything except white or light blue.

I wasnt planning on buying anything and i rarely do events like this so dont want to spend more than 40-50ish. I was thinking vinted but its overwhelming. Any brands i should look for?

I feel at a total loss and a terrible shopper.

I'm sure someone will ne along to help with the dress situation in a moment. (Look at Karen millen, loads of suitable dresses there) I'm just stopping by to say how gorgeous your friends wedding sounds.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 05/11/2023 17:16

Well, you're definitely not a terrible shopper, OP. You've judged the event so perfectly that you've got the same dress!

Ollifer · 05/11/2023 17:17

It's a good job she told you what dress she's wearing 😁😁

reallyworriedjobhunter · 05/11/2023 17:29

Could you change the look of the dress with a jacket or belt?

fernsandlilies · 05/11/2023 17:43

LOL at wearing the same dress but with a belt!

AmazingSnakeHead · 05/11/2023 17:51

I adore that dress, if I ever got married it would be in a green Ghost dress. Maybe try vinted for ghost and see what else gets suggested as similar?

Paperbagsaremine · 05/11/2023 17:53

How have you fared with New Look stuff before, OP?
They've got a few wrap dresses that you might be interested in if the fit works for you.

For me they've provided some surprisingly good value wearable stuff so I always go have a look in there, and budget wise it would be well within your limit. But that said my own figure is going to be different.

Not sure if any would meet your taste, but Quiz is within your price range.

I know you didn't want to spend much but this one at Boden is a similar style - they have 15% off at the moment too. It's available in green, red and a mix of colours. www.boden.co.uk/en-gb/elise-velvet-midi-dress-red/sty-d0810-red

Does it matter if it's the same dress in a strikingly different colour? Does the bride know you have it?

HollywoodTease · 05/11/2023 20:26

I've said it before, my go-to for cheap formal wear is Roman Original. Would this do?
