Am I kidding myself? - Coast sizing

For context - I am planning on hopefully getting married in Vegas in January next year, second time for me, but first for DP and we are both happy with an easy Vegas elopement, especially as it's our favourite place! It's going to be just the 2 of us so really informal and relaxed but I still would like to wear a nice dress and I have fallen in love with this coast dress - however I am a curvy 16, or more realistically between a 16 & 18 in some brands. I have purchased it in a petite size 18 as I am pretty short and the normal size will likely come to my ankles, but I am pretty sure it's not going to fit because I have read in several places that Coast sizing comes up small.

Please tell me your Coast sizing experiences to keep the dream alive until it turns up and all my dreams are dashed!

If it is too big, a seamstress could easily take it in. Easier to take in a dress than let one out.

It’s a lovely dress.
I bought a £200 Coast dress earlier this year and it came all scrunched up in a small plastic bag, creased to hell. I thought the fitting was on the large size. And I had to pay to send it back.

I am more worried about it being too small based on what I have read about coast coming up small

This gives me a little bit of hope, I would rather it was too big than too small which is what I am worried about!

I have 2 Coast dresses which I got from Vinted, both lovely. Bought my usual size 10 and they fit and look good, but let's say I wouldn't eat Christmas dinner in them! Coast sizing is not generous.

I think you'll be fine unless changing has changed drastically over the years. I wore coast a lot when I was a size 18 and it was always fine

whereisthecheese · 04/11/2023 10:04

Ps lovely dress, if it's too small a seamstress might be able to adjust the zip but I think you'll be fine

It really is! I am so desperate for it to fit! I think I I would be slightly devastated if I had to send it back!

I think if it's not way too small I may use this as an option as it doesn't come in any sizes larger than an 18.

Unfortunately, the dress has to go back. Just as I suspected there is a good 2 - 3 inch gap with the zip around my back and my boobs are way too big for the dress! Not even a tailor can rescue that! 😅

I wonder if it's because I bought the petite version. I am gutted but the hunt for a dress will continue!

Ah no! So disappointed for you!

MalibuBetty · 08/11/2023 21:27

Mine fits but I think the fabric is very very thin for the price. It feels like it would tear very easily. I felt like a fairy princess in it though it's so pretty
