I think eyelash extensions have ruined my lashes, will they grow back?

For some stupid reason I thought it would be a great idea to start getting eyelash extentions earlier this year. They looked great for 2 weeks then I'd need to have an infill to avoid walking around with dodgy lashes, rinse and repeat until I'd been getting them for about 5 or 6 months.

I got tired of the upkeep and the cost so decided after my last infill 4 weeks ago that I wouldn't get any more and i'd let them grow out. The lash tech used too much glue that time and I had nothing but problems since. I had about 10 long lashes left that I needed out but wouldn't budge.

I didn't want to go back there so bought an OTC lash extention removal product, read the instructions carefully and applied as instructed and the pissing thing has taken off more of my natural lashes than it did the fake ones.

That being said, before I applied it I had a good look at my 'natural' lashes and they were all short, sparse and stubby. This is before any remover touched them.

I'm gutted. Will they grow back? I have barely any eyelashes now and the ones I do have are barely visible 😔

They will....don't panic!
I used to have extensions and then after a year, needed a break.
Absolutely recommend getting an eyelash serum to help speed up the growth. A few months later I was able to have extensions again.
Nowadays I have a lash lift instead as the upkeep of extensions is a bit much atm, but went back to using the serum and the difference in lash quantity and density was very apparent between the lifts 8 weeks apart.

I had lash extensions for years and my lashes were like tiny stumps! I only stopped because I randomly started sleeping on my face so the upkeep was too costly.

I started using UK Lash when I first stopped having them and it's worked wonders. A tube is around £40 but lasts for 3 months. I do the subscription but you can buy without.

I did this! I'll never do extensions again. I used rapidlash serum and they were back better than normal in about 6 weeks. I just use the serum now and people often comment on my eyelashes . I am considering a lift and tint though...

Thank you all for the reassurance! I had a panic 🤦🏼‍♀️ I've just ordered the UKlash serum, the before and after pictures look great. I had no idea such a thing existed. I definitely won't be getting extensions again and curse the day I started.

With the serums - can you wear mascara? Are they likely to fall out quickly?

Mine were ruined with extensions once, all grew back fine.

Candyflosscrochet · 03/11/2023 20:05

I wear mascara with mine.

Yep. My eyelashes are blonde. Mascara is happening.

Honestly, my lashes are better than they were pre-extensions with UK Lash. It's never going to be a replacement for extensions (I wear strip lashes to go out out) but I've had no complaints with it at all.

They will recover with patience.

However! Please heed a warning about UK lash and the like. Orbital fat loss around the eye, hollowing, wrinkling and darkening from using products like that, the recovery will not be so easy. I really don't recommend.

Was going to say this! Please be careful with prostaglandin based lash serums. You can get ones which don’t have prostaglandin in and these don’t have the side effects.

Lilq5 · 04/11/2023 09:46

Thanks for the warning about the serums containing prostaglandin, I've done a bit of reading and am a bit apprehensive now. I may just use it for a couple of weeks until my own lashes look a bit more normal and then get a lash lift and cease the serum.

OP you need to use it for at least 4-6 weeks (it needs to affect a whole growth cycle) I've used UKlash on and off for 6 months and it really works, no side effects but i'm cutting back to be safe and use it only every few days now.

If I were you I would use it for 2-3 months to use up one tube and get your lashes back to their pre-damaged state

rooftopbird · 23/02/2024 18:02

UKlash works brilliantly until you stop using it. I stopped when I ran out about 6 months ago and now my lashes are short and stubby. I wish I'd never started with lash serum, I don't know what's in it but my once natural long healthy lashes are gone ☹️
