Best products for skin texture - I need results!

Getting married in June next year and I really need to sort my awful textured skin - enlarged pores on my cheeks and nose and bumpy forehead. Currently I use Medik8 Crystal Retinal 6 and their bakuchiol peptide serum on alternate nights, with Dermatica lactic acid twice a week but there’s no improvement. Skin is combination/dehydrated and a bit sensitive.

I’ve tried Dermatica but the peeling was horrendous and it made me too sun-sensitive, it just looked like I was doing more damage and holding out for good results that never came.

I want quick, dependable results so please, if you share my particular skin concerns and have used anything that’s helped matters please do enlighten me! Heard good things about P50 lotion and SR Good Genes. Happy to pay up to £60 for something that will give me the results I need! I’ve had massive pores since I was 13, nothing to do with poor overall skincare, trust me I’ve tried a lot of regimes and always taken care of my skin.

I wonder whether you'd be better spending money on a dermatologist or aestician rather than buying more products as you're already using a few actives

You can't do anything about the size of your pores. Media extolling "glass skin" isn't helping. All skin has texture, except maybe infants.

Dehydrated skin will look worse, though. I recommend you do as much as you can to help rehydrate it. Have you tried slugging.? Before bed, Use something like glycerine or hyaluronic acid serum, followed by a regular moisturiser, then let that sit a couple of minutes before topping with a layer of Vaseline. I wake up with plump, dewy skin.

Which dermatica formula did you try? Tret is too harsh for my sensitive skin, but adapalene (which dermatica also offers) works well. I use Dr Jart ectoin moisturiser and it's very hydrating. I also use CosRx snail mucin which is great too.

God yeah I look at my 5 and 2 year olds and almost weep with jealously over their unbelievably beautiful skin 😢

Op, I use skin and me because they dose very low and slow

Sounds like simple oil cleansing might be better for you?

HermioneWeasley · 03/11/2023 12:54

Do you have niacinamide in your routine?

my skin has massively improved texture and visible pores and hers what I use (still oily though)

morning
splash with cold water
the ordinary niacinamide and zinc serum
ordinaru hylaronic acid serum
rosalique anti redness
primer

evening
remove make up with home made oil cleanser (50/50 caster oil and sweet almond)
cleanse again with ordinary squalene cleanser (I think double cleansing has made a big difference)
once a week I use differin gel followed by marula oil
twice a week I use retinol
other nights I use glycolic acid toner and then marula oil

I use Wishful enzyme scrub. Only once a week, if that. I stopped using physical exfoliants as read everything about them being awful and damaging but went back as they give results. I also use a face flannel to wash my face. Don't scrub away with it but it helps get in the little bits around my nose etc and I feel like all my make up has been removed.

Face oil as well for me.

The only thing that refines my skin is tret. You do need to go through the tret uglies but can you try again with a milder formula? Buffer well with a good cica repair cream too. Consistency is key here so as a pp said low and slow is the way to go
I have p60 too (not used at the same time as tret!) it's great and helps smooth but it's tret that gives me the refined pores and plump skin.
