Which hairdryer - Parlux or GHD?

My current hairdryer is a cheap Remington 2400w that needs replacing. I want to go for a nicer (and hopefully quicker) version but I'm not sure which to go for.

Can anyone recommend any of these models or give me advice? Is there really that much of a difference between say the cheapest Parlux and the most expensive? The models currently on my list are -

Parlux Digitalyon
Parlux Aylon
Parlux Advance Ceramic
Parlux 3500
GHD Air
GHD Helios

I have the Parlux Digitaylom. I bought it because it was described as lightweight. But it feels kind of cheap? Nothing like the rock solid GHD l had.

l prefer the GHD.

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow oh that's interesting, I would have thought at that price it would be sturdy. I definitely need something sturdy.

I've got the Alyon. It's relatively light, which is important to me. And quiet definitely helps at stupid o'clock each morning. I don't personally think simply being heavy is a great indicator of quality - it definitely dries my hair quickly and without frizz or scorching - an aching arm with the same result wouldn't be helpful, after all.

But then again, I did go years with a crappy travel hairdryer, so maybe I'm not the best person to comment; I just tried one out at the hairdresser and thought 'I could hold this'.

Parlux 3500. So reliable and powerful

GenialHarryGr0ut · 01/11/2023 20:40

I have a Parlux 3500 and it's OK but not a patch on the Dyson one I had before.
If I hadn't had the Dyson I'd love the Parlux

HundredMilesAnHour · 01/11/2023 20:50

I have a Parlux Supercompact 3500 (it's small but quite heavy and very sturdy) and it pisses all over my Dyson. The Dyson takes forever and isn't very robust (we got Dysons in my gym and they fell apart/broke within a couple of months). Diva is also a cheaper alternative to both that does a great job.

I have the GHD Helios and think it’s great. Really sturdy and dries my hair really quickly. I haven’t had a Parlux so can’t really comment.

AuntieJoyce · 01/11/2023 21:01

If you are looking at the Parlux why not consider a Gamma Pui. They have a 3500 for about £70 online. I have this one and it is now about 12 years old still going strong. 2500W great for long thick hair.

whatawhataweek · 01/11/2023 21:13

I have the Ghd duet. Fantastic if you like to straighten as you dry.

hairdryerhelp · 01/11/2023 21:51

I've seen good reviews for the Dyson but it's out of budget.

Whoops posted too soon Blush

I haven't heard of Gamma Pui so I will take a look, thank you.

I will also look into the GHD Duet as I don't know much about it but it would be handy to straighten and dry!

I have the GHD helios and absolutely love it. No other hairdryer makes my hair as smooth (I have fine hair but loads of it so gets frizzy really easy!). I've used a Dyson but wasn't impressed

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 01/11/2023 23:58

I have the Parlux 3500 and it’s great. My hairdresser recommended it. He used a GHD dryer (borrowed from another stylist) on my hair last year and said he preferred the Parlux.

hairdryerhelp · 02/11/2023 13:18

So far the Parlux 3500 seems to be the most popular. I've narrowed down the list to Parlux 3500, Parlux Alyon or Advance as I can get these both for cheaper than the 3500 and the GHD Helios.

I love my GHD Helios.

Crazymadchickenlady · 02/11/2023 14:06

I have the parlux powerlight 385 which is great. I hate really heavy hairdryers so this one is ideal for me.

Nearlyadoctor · 02/11/2023 17:32

Recently bought the GHD Helios and cannot get on with it, I think it’s just too powerful. Dries my hair really quickly ( even on the lowest setting) with no time to style ( shoulder length hair). I’ve given it to Dd 16 with long straight hair and she loves it. I’ve just ordered another Diva hairdryer which is the same as the one I was replacing, after 10 years.

vernatheraven · 02/11/2023 17:48

I have a Dyson but just replaced it with an airwrap. It was the best hairdryer I have ever had beyond doubt.

I was going to sell mine but my daughter has claimed it who also says it's the best hairdryer she's ever used.

Lavenderhazee · 02/11/2023 17:51

I’ve got a Parlux 3500 but prefer my mum’s ghd Helios. The Parlux is quite heavy and the attachment falls off ALL THE TIME, which is really annoying - constantly having to search under the bed for it.

Rosebud21 · 19/02/2024 06:29

@hairdryerhelp which one did you buy, & would you recommend it? 🙏
